Christ Church
Christ Church in New Road was consecrated on 9th November 1858 by the Bishop of Rochester and the church "was crowded in every part, not less than 1,000 being present". The church was endowed by Robert Hanbury who also provided for the building of a vicarage, schools and later the Mission Hall in Amwell End. It is in the early English style of architecture built of ragstone from Kent.
For 137 years Christ Church has been serving the community of Ware and although no longer organises coal, clothing and shoe clubs, a soup kitchen, penny dinners and breakfasts, or a penny bank, it does run a variety of activities. An extension to the Memorial Hall was completed in 1994 - the first development on the site since the hall was built in 1895.
