The Waterways Event
The event, organised in Ware by the Town Centre Management Board and the Inland Waterways association, is part of the Ware Festival and will take place on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th. July.
Ware did have an illuminated festival of working boats back in 1904.
At present over 30 boats have already signed up to attend, including narrowboats and cruisers, and it is hoped this will rise to about 50. The boats will be moored along the Lea on the towpath side, between The Priory and Saracens Head bridge, probably moored side by side.
All boats will be decorated and there will be a prize for best dressed boat
There will be a "Tug of War" between different boats throughout the afternoon, this is where two boats face each other with a rope tied to the prow of each boat, then they go in reverse.
Boat trips available on the "Stort Challenger", each trip accommodating 12 people so be sure to get to the key.
They will also have a stall at the fete in the Priory grounds on the Saturday selling canal ware, books, videos etc.
There will be a pageant along the river on both days.
There will be a display on the history of working boats.
Don't forget to bring your cameras.
