Ware Festival Charities 2008
THREE local organisations have been chosen by the Ware Festival Committee to benefit from Ware Festival. Money raised from the sale of Ware Festival Draw tickets and the collection taken during the Carnival Procession is distributed to these charities. Some groups also generously donate their profits from Festival events or their takings at the Town Fair.
WASPS ~ WARE SKATE PARK SCHEME
The Ware Skate Park Group was formed in March 2006 after a packed public meeting at the Priory. Our main aim is to create a multi-use, multi-ability Skate park for the people of Ware on land at Broadmeads. We have a very enthusiastic Committee with the majority of the group being the potential users of the Park with ages ranging from 14 upwards.
The WASPS have supported the Town Council in providing a temporary park last summer and are delighted that the Priory hosted a temporary facility during the Easter holidays. A temporary Skatepark will also be at the Priory during the summer holidays – this time with some funding raised by the users.
The group meets every two months on the first Wednesday at Broadmeads Scout Hut to consider designs and plan fundraising events during the Festival.
If you would like to help us please come along or contact the group on 01920 421466. Alternatively, you could write to Jan Wing, c/o Ware Priory.
WARE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION
Whose aims are to safeguard the welfare, interests and memory of those who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces
The Royal British Legion was founded in July 1921 and is the leading ex-Service organisation and one of our best-known and most highly respected charities. It exists to promote the welfare of those who are serving or who have served in the Armed Forces and their dependents. As you will all appreciate, a great deal of money is needed to ensure these objectives are met. Fundraising is therefore a primary function of the Royal British Legion.
The Poppy Appeal is the main source of income each year, providing money to assist those in need; to maintain the RBL’s residential and convalescent homes and to give help in re-training for those leaving the service.
The Royal British Legion offers membership to men, women and young people of all ages who wish to be involved in charitable work and who do not need to be ex-service personnel.
Global hostilities and the use of peacekeeping forces in this day and age make the Royal British Legion more relevant than ever.
If you are interested, why not visit the RBL Club in Gladstone Road, Ware, or contact the Branch Secretary on 01920 412045.
