WTC has no influence at all.
Surely this can't be true, otherwise, why would the Ware Town Council's planning sub-committee allocate £20,000 to a town plan draft. If they have no influence, this is a huge waste of public funds.

Well I for one am confident that our trusty and ever on the ball Town Council will have dealt with this is their usual informed and considered manner.

The site mentions innovative thinking on planning and rates - WTC have no say on either, nor parking nor any input into the mix of shops.

So does that mean that Ware Town Council should sit back and trust that East Herts will put Ware ahead of the other two towns in the District when it comes to things like this?

While WTC does not have control of these things, is it not supposed to have influence and fight Ware's corner? WTC has no control on planning but still has a planning committee so it serve some purpose!

WTC has no influence at all - look back over past planning decisions, you will see their views are totally ignored by EHDC - in any case this thread was about competing for the Portas award, how can you put forward a plan when you have no power to implement any of it?

Not here there isn't, next EHDC and WTC are in 2015. Next HCC in 2013. We do get to vote for our brand new Police Commissioner in November.

there is an election coming up next month isn't there? Get out and vote and maybe then we can sack the current council!

Damo5, you have hit the heart of the problem we all have with WTC. They focus only on their minimal legal responsibilities and do not act as a voice for the town in things that really matter and affect us. Given how little power they actually have, this lobby role with EHDC and others should be their main function - but they don;t see it that way and so independent groups like the Ware Society, BIG or SOGS have to fight for the town instead.
