Afternoon

Could anyone recommend somewhere local I can get my bike MOT done?

If your travelling into London you could use my prefered MOT (and Tyre) place down there. Essential Rubber on Blackwall tunnel approach. Really nice blokes who ride bikes and do all the courier bikes down that way. No mess and no nonsense!

Following up on this
I opted for Mark Davall, I think next time I'll choose the other one

I took my bike in for an MOT on 9th June, it's still there, he apologised for taking so long saying that he's been dragging his heals with my bike because he loses interest with the smaller bikes, which is unfair as I'm forking out a fortune on train fares to Victoria while I'm waiting

Also not too pleased that he failed it on something that it never failed on previously in the 3 years I've had it, no back passenger pedals, ok fine, it shouldn't take 3 weeks to put right, he only ordered the new pedals on Monday

Was going to ask for a service but after quoting me £160 for work to pass the MOT I dont think I'll bother, I cant wait another 3 weeks

Hopefully it'll be ready for me on Saturday

I can recommend Butlers and at Stansted Abbotts a local company.

Sadly I don't use them. Went in some years back looking to buy a bike and the boss just ignored me. When I eventually asked for some attention re prcies etc he basically told me he didn't think I was serious and to sling my hook!
So I went to another dealer and purchased. Never been back since.
I imagine it was just a bad day for him but it cost at least that sale and my business since.
Still I'm sure in these difficult times he's a lot more attentive to customers :-)

Get over it Pat, as you said it was years ago and my experience is more recent and they have been good. Companies that are bad go under and this one is still going strong.

Bizarre comment - as a customer the only sanction you have for poor service is not to give them your money. Are you saying we should ignore poor service and buy from them anyway? A shop gave me very poor service about 12 years ago - I have never been back and don't intend to.

Quite.
Plenty to choose from round here.
I'm quite over it and wouldn't have mentioned it if it hadn't come up.
In fact despite the poor service I'd even listed them as a potential source for the MOT.

Can also recommend Mark Davell

Ok great, I'll get it sorted soon but for now I've retired it for the winter

I'm the guy that gets laughed at on the A10 whizzing to London on my little red Honda 125 Innova everyday
I'm not very experienced, I'm coming towards the end of my CBT, probably changing jobs soon so depending on where the new job is, maybe I'll take the test to get a bigger bike

SBW in Hertford can do it.
Bulters in Standstead Abbots can do it.

But my local choice would be Mark Davell in Harlow http://markdavallmotorcycles.com/

I actually have mine done at a place near the Blackwall tunnel but that maybe a bit far!

No idea of your motorcycling experience but have you checked out the loacl advanced motorcycle group with an aim of taking the IAM test?
http://www.hbam.org.uk/index.php
I took my test with them a while back and have trained to be an observer and consider a real advantage in staying alive on toadys roads!
