What a great club too, from being at Leaside church Hall in the early 80's to moving to the Drill Hall, Ware Boys Club gave the community of Ware something to be proud of. It at first had 2 sections, Boxing & Weightlifting, then later a Judo section came. Boxing was headed by the great Taffy Green also fondly remembered by Fanshawe School pupils as the lollipop man in the 80's. Fred Green (real name) passed away in the early 90's aroundabout, his funeral in Wareside was truly amazing, all the mourners didn't fit in the church - it was a special day i will never forget. As a member of the Boxing section we travelled all over, even abroad. The coaches Charlie, Rod, Jack, Barry, George, Graham, Mick, Howard, Joe & 2 Johns were of the best in the Boxing game. Some of the boxers were from outside Ware, it had such a good reputation they came from all over. Even the Comp Sec's were of the best quality Frank, Dave & Bob. On acheivement, we had champions at all levels & the local rag always had something about Ware Boys Club every week. Maybe Ware Boys Club will reappear one day. |
