I work in a building in Church Street which was formerly known as the Old Auction House.
The building dates from 1778 and in a previous life also housed a United Services Club of some kind.
As current occupants we are keen to find out more about the building's history.
Can anyone add any information? For those of you who don't know which building I am talking about it's 2 doors down from Dino's and it looks a it chapel like.

It was an Independent chapel which could accommodate 450 people and was closed in 1918. There was a burial ground adjacent. It was used for private parties for a while, then a masonic hall from 1933-38 and in 1964 was The United Services Club, then was the auction rooms of WH Lee before becoming a printing works in the 1980s.

It was a chapel.
The first minister there was Mary Shelly's father, William Godwin, an interesting literary connection - Frankenstein.

Details of William Godwin from Wiki.

We had our engagement party there in 1967 when it was the Masonic Hall.
What is it being used for now Ben?
I remember going in there when it was used as an Auction Hall too.
