Hi, we're after a painter/decorator to start asap to do a little work inside our house. I've already read to past forums where decorators have been recommended, but unfortunately for me, they're stacked out with work. Has any one go any other recommendations?

Difficult to know who's likely to be able to get to you quickly at the moment. I'd highly recommend Mark Rossi 07824-363924 who we found through WOL. To get someone good it might be worth the wait!

I would agree with Choosy Suzy and recommend Mark (as you've probably seen through the other discussions on here), but we are certainly pleased with the work he has done for us.

I know that he is busy till Christmas, which also shows how popular he is.

We will be getting him back to do some more work early next year, but we are lucky in that we can wait till then, if you can I'm sure that you won't be disappointed.

Well by means of an update on this subject in case any other poor sole has the need to employ a local Decorator.

I obtained 7 estimates from 'Local' Decorators which ranged from £600 to an incredible £2,055 ...... YES THAT IS NOT A TYPING ERROR it was indeed Two Thousand and Fifty Five Pounds and all for the same job!! by 'local experts'.

The job consisted of an 'L' shaped lounge, stairs and upper landing and the small entrance lobby basicaly half a small 3 bed terraced house. No bedrooms, No Bathroom, No kitchen, No papering to be done. Just a simple Vinyl Emulsion on the ceiling & Walls with a bit of White Gloss and a coating of Dulux Woodsheen on 2 doors and furniture rail - thats all.

My days of being able to redecorate are unfortunatly over due to health. But I now take great comfort in the thousands of pounds I have saved in my lifetime when I was far more agile and younger.

So please be warned and do shop around as you can see there are some that need to be avoided and good luck.

It would be interesting at least to know approx how much you paid and whether you were happy with their work ? Did you go for the £600 ?

Yes I have, he has a great many years of experiance and starts tomorrow.I will post a result when they finish.

The '£2055' estimate didnt stand a chance of course. Either he didnt want the job or simply has idea's above his station in life.

Result as promissed - We are well pleased, absolutely delighted with our choice - So once again may I recommend ALWAYS SHOP AROUND as in my experience it didn't make any sense at all to use local.
