Although, thinking about it, I wonder whether it is a pre or post 1940s house ..... |

| There's a mix of houses up there, pre-and post-war. Depends which bit of Cromwell Road exactly. |

| You can have a nice "virtual" walk via the Google virtual street view. |

Just a thought - does anyone know if any of the roads in Ware have ever been renumbered? I went looking for my grandparents house in South London and thought it looked rather different from some old photos we had. Turned out it was now number 31 rather than 37 because the local Council had renumbered several roads back in the 1930s.
Might not apply to Cromwell Road but could affect others looking for places elsewhere if anyone remembers it being done in Ware. |

All streets were renumbered in the late 1800s. The original idea for street numbers was 1, 2, 3, etc. down one side until the end of the road was reached (e.g. 156) and then back up the other side (157, 158, etc,). Then somebody realised that it left no numbers for any new houses built at the end of the road so the current system was imposed by law.

When I was young It used to be Corn Fields over there, there where no houses beyond No 25 on the left hand side, and No 20 on the right going up from Musley Lane.I lived in Garland Road untill I was eight then moved to Musley Lane,
They started to build on those fields in the 1950s, my wife and I bought our first House after we got Married in Barley Ponds Road in 1956, In case you dont know B Ps is a turning of Cozens Road and Lower Clabdens |
