It was interesting to note from the figures the Town Council has reported this year that the amount spent on "tourism, leisure and amenities" was very close to the loss made on the Lido.

Also of note is that the Priory income was 237,005 while expenditure was pretty much matched. Fletcher's Lea on the other hand brought in 48,000 and cost 170,864. By my calculations, if they closed Fletcher's Lea in it's entirety and left it to rot the tax player would save 123,000 a year

At that rate, how long would it take until we recouped the money that was spend on it?

I can't believe these figures on their face value, so something must be hidden? Does anyone have a link to a further breakdown of these figures?

One has to wonder if spending all of the "tourism, leisure and amenities" money on the Lido would in fact draw more people in to Ware and benefit the people of Ware more?

Why would the Lido breaking even draw more people?
The Lido actually benefits very few so is it fair to take the money from all other projects to finance it?

On FLea I suspect most of the cost goes to financing the loans so would have to be paid even if it were empty. The anwer I think is to use it more not less.

The figures are only estimates anyway.

The Lido would be open for longer if it broke even.

It would be fairer to do that than just benefit the small number who have private bookings for Fletcher's Lea! Notwithstanding that, the number of tourists that come to Ware and benefit from council money can probably be counted on the fingers of less than one hand!

I take it you're happy with the way the town Council manage your money then?

How would you spend it?

Flea has to be paid for whether open or not - at the time the decision to build was reasonable but WTC were caught out by the downturn like many others.

TLA do far more than just tourism they support many local groups and events, would I be happy to see all that stopped so a few in Ware can have subsidised swimming? (or even people from outside Ware) - no

Ware TC actually cost me about £1 per week
I am happy to keep the Lido open even though I never use it
I accept Flea has to be paid for - I think it is a pity it is not used more.
We should probably keep the cemetery.
I would like WTC to take on the Broadmeads toilets even though it would cost more.

The fees charged to groups to use Fletchers Lea are way far too high, so its not used by groups, which is a pity, as there are always enquiries made for hall hire in the town.

I'm surprised,I haven't been involved with hall hiring for some time but I would have thought they were on a par with others in the town.

Don't know about their room hire rates, but their conference rates are expensive. I organized a meeting in central London last summer and paid less per delegate than is charged for Flea.
