Er, dialling random numbers works a treat, and will get you in the end!

Well these scam PC calls continue. I might be sad but I really enjoyed my few minutes on the phone to this woman with a very harsh sounding and slightly foreign voice who told me she had noticed my PC running slowly and giving the occasional error message. `How do you know that?` `You are one of 20 people in the area with this problem that we are having to fix` She wasn't even put off when she asked what was on my screen after a few clicks and I said the options were RUN, RUN very fast and Police She just said `You are not doing as I told you!` Wow, real tough lady. It was only when she said she knew about my PC system as I had a registered copy of windows and I replied that it was a pirate copy, that the phone went dead. She was heading me towards a known virus site and doubtless they would have charged money to then remove the virus. Making them waste time is the only option to reducing this scam at present and if every call was 3mins wasted their income would drop substantially.

| I can't wait for the call . . . I wonder how long I can string it out before I tell them that I'm using a mac with OSX. |

| Me too, last week. Interestingly the caller, a chap with an asian/Indian accent, asked for Mrs Jacko by name but she was at work. So I dealt with him. This bloke sounded confident and 'pushy' too. |

| Perhaps they target area codes in groups as I had a call like this last week too. |

My daughter whom lives this side of Stevenage, had the same thing last week. He was also of Indian/Asian origin and extremely pushy and he even rang back 3 times to ask why she put the phone down on him!! Needless to say that she eventually told him in no uncertain terms that even he understood. |

I had a call last week too. I just said, sounding amazed. "Windows XP? On a Mac? That can't be right can it?" He hung up on me. |

Yes they tried to call me again but the line got dropped. I'm tempted to set up a premium number and if they call again ask them to call me on my "business line". At least that way I'll be paid for the time they waste... |

| They are still trying I had a call today. Thanks for mentioning it on here as I might not have realised it was a scam otherwise. |

I know we've done this subject before - however, unfortunately, I still come across people who have fall for these scams. One person recently paid 5350 rupees (£77) for a so called virus removal/ PC maintenance service. Fortunately on that occasion (other than to the wallet), no damage was done to the PC.
So, once again - ANY calls from abroad, with a foreign accent, a delay before they speak, alledgedly "from Microsoft", "your PC is malfunctioning, or has viruses" - rest assured it's a SCAM. End of. |

| I had a call on Saturday. However, I was too quick to say " Oh yeah and what is wrong with it then?" at which they hung up! |

| I've just had this call (only the 2nd time for me). What I liked about it was that the guy who called told me his name was 'Mac'! Brilliant, what an apt name! First guy who called me several weeks ago was called 'Harry' - "if you know what I mean....!" |

They've not gone away I had one at the weekend.
Seemed very confident that he wanted to help me with my computer problem. I kept asking him why I was being called. I think it threw him when I asked which computer was the giving error messages, He gave up at this point! |
