This has been in operation for a while now and our District Councillors say it is working perfectly. Have any WOLers had experience of it and have any comments to make? |

Comments - oh yes, any point in making them?
I visited Australia recently and was impressed by the provision of public toilets in every little town/hamlet/village/settlement even that we visited. Each and everyone was small but perfectly formed and completely free!
Come to Ware and unless you come during shop opening hours and know where to go, you haven't got a chance!
I think it is an appalling state of affairs and a sad reflection on 'bottom lining' (pardon the pun) being more important than the provision of a public service for the people of and visitors to Ware.

Had no problem using the Tap the other day, don't think they even realised I'd been through the pub!
But I agree it is totally unacceptable that you can only use the toilets during opening hours. Mind you at least Tesco is now open until 12 so should imagine their loo comes in for some use after closing! |

I agree with Judie T. I think that there should be public toilets open 24 hours for everyone. The community toilet scheme is ok but I (and I suspect others) still feel uncomfortable going into somewhere like the Spread Eagle or Tap Bar just to use the toilet.
It has been stated that the toilets on the station will be re-opened for the 2012 Olympics. If that is the case, why can they not be re-opoened full time? It cost £50,000 to install them and they were closed within months of opening.
Unfortunately, the vandal element of our society seem to see public toilets as an easy target. |

| Trev, The toilets on Ware station will indeed be open during certain hours and available for use during the Olympic/Paraolympic period. But will be closed again shortly afterwards, Their design is open to vandalism. |

I'm impressed that public toilets work in Australia and depressed that they don't work here. Somehow the vandal element is winning on this one.
The community toilet scheme is a sop and quite evidently largely impractical. You don't have to look very hard to see men urinating in public late at night along the High Street, though to be fair they did even before all the loos closed. But they have an excuse now.
With a population that is living longer I wonder whether the need of public conveniences increases not decreases ! |

Yes, if only to refute the claims by EHDC that it is a huge success. You may also wish to take it up with your EHDC Councillor at election time - I know of no other EH towns who have had this imposed, does anyone else? If it is such a grand idea why is it only in Ware?
Is it a coincidence that Ware has, once again, been refused any money from the town centre enhancement scheme. |
