Sue

I think this is a fantastic way for us to improve what i think is a wonderful place to live.
Firstly One of the things which would slove a alot of the problems that have been mentioned.
I think our main problem is in the evenings the kids of the area have no where to go and nothing to do. This ends up with them wandering round Ware high st and leads to the problems mentioned before.
I think CCTV,shutters are throwing money at the effects of the problems.

Maybe organise something for the kids on a Friday or Sat night at the Drill hall or Wodson Park. A bit like the club for youngsters at the Corn Exchange Hertford.

Another thing for the kids this idea of a skate park that the council wont pay the piddling amount to to the planning permission.
Get it done so that it gives the kids something else to do.
Another quick fix would be to reline the basketball court and tennis courts at the lido and some new nets on the hoops and some seating next to it and maybe floodlight it.

As the father of teenage kids a few things to keep them happy would help loads.

What is the building at the bottom,(High Road), end of New Road. Think it is called "Ware to go or something." Wasn't this refurbished as a youth club ? Perhaps volunteers are required to supervise etc. As for the skate park, I believe council members want a more detailed breakdown as to what the finished article will cost before commiting any funds towards planning applications etc.

Hi Acey, Thanks for your comments. At the moment the council are planning to put in an application for change of use for the land allocated for the skate park, if and when the permission is granted there will be a consultation on what the community wants to see on the land. I will look in to the possibilty of evening events. The Basketball courts are going to be re-lined, as for the nets as soon as new ones are put up they are torn down, new ones were put up during the summer for the basket ball events. Floodlights would need to be looked into a bit more.
Hi boyboy will speak to Town Centre Manager with regard to Warehouse and get back to you with more details.
Thanks again for all comments.

Trouble is if you say the words Youth Club to most teenagers they would either laugh at you or run a mile.
It would have to be something that would appeal to them.
But if they need a volunteer and there is a building available then i would help out.

Also checking out the details of the Warehouse it is only open Mon & Tues when most of the trouble and kids hanging round is Fri & Sat night

What about metal nets (chains) for the basketball hoops why should a minority of vandals stop an amenity that could be useful.

Hi Acey, understand what you mean about Youth Clubs, but there must be something that would engage them, probably not all. As part of the Healthcheck I will try and find out what is wanted. Will keep you posted.

Hi all, managed to find out a bit more about the Warehouse, yes it is only open Monday and Tuesday evenings 7.00pm to 10.00pm on Monday and 6.30 to 9.30 on Tuesday aimed at 13 -18 but tends to be 11 upwards, pool, IT, craft things to to, they have funding to set up a After Schools club on a Thursday evening, 5.30 - 7.30 so project wotk can be done and homework, at the moment cannot recruite staff. They use to be open on a Friday evening, but found they were being used as a babysitting service for parents on a Friday night out. Staffing seems to be a problem if anybody would like to get involved please contact Dave Walton on 01920 411968.

Sue, with the title "Ware Market Town Healthcheck" the obvious improvement would be to ban smoking in all public areas this would not I believe be as controversial now with the bans taking place worldwide.

Hi Andy, thanks for comments, the Healthcheck I feel is a misleading title as people believe it has a lot more to do with health. They call it this to identify if a town is 'fit for the future'. The process does have an element about Health and Public Safety and certainly your comments will be noted for this topic I think it would be difficult to take this forward from the healthcheck process. At the moment it would be up to individuals and their businesses to make decisions about a no smoking policy, but things may change during the healthcheck and we will see this idea of a ban more strongly contested. Perhaps other WOL have a view on this.

Hi Sue, would you be willing to forward it on to the council as you must be in contact with them in your new roll? I'm sure you will get mixed views on this subject but I believe the smoker is becoming minority and with peoples greater awareness of health this would make a huge difference.

No - but modern pedestrian crossings wait until there is nothing coming before changing, if there is a constant stream of traffic they wait ages and eventually time out and change stopping some traffic for you. I believe they also now detect if anybody is still standing there and if they can't detect anybody they cancel the request.

If the sensor is broken then the request may get cancelled while you are still waiting to cross.

Just wanted to say thanks to those residents who are taking time to fill in questionnaires that are about, in the Museum and being circulated with the Newsletter put out by Dave Walton Town Centre Manager and returning them to me. This information will be collated over the healthcheck process and fedback at a later date. All this information helps build a picture of the town and the aspirations of its population.
Thanks again.

On Monday 7th March 7.00pm for 7.30pm at The Priory the Community Voice will be on the topic of The Market Town Initiative (Healthcheck). There will be feedback on the information that has been gathered and getting the community involved with an Action Plan for projects that people would like to see achieved for Ware. All are welcome What are you your ideas for Ware?

Any idea when we will get feedback from the meeting on 7th March Sue? Are there any interesting projects for the Town following on from this?

Hi Martin - The information gathered from the meeting will be put into an action plan for Ware and then support/ funding for these projects needs to be sourced. Some of the points raised have been passed on to departments here at East Herts, mainly those which cannot be actioned within this work. The Action Plan is being put together and should be completed in the next few weeks.

Hi Sue, you must be very brave taking on this job as we are an opinionated lot in Ware.
My main issue is that of rubbish disposal, both at the small level and the large. We desperately need bins in and around Chauncy and St Catherines school to prevent the vast amounts of litter that end up in residents' hedges and the pavements and roads. This one simple action would make a huge difference. We need better recycling facilities and a real attention to the overspill at the landfill site up the road. Until this is tackled we will be drowning in our own rubbish with all the health problems this brings.

Hi Rebbecca
I have passed your commnents with regard to litter bins, in and around Chauncy and St Catherines School, to Waste Services and they will look into it for you. Unfortunatly putting litter bins in does not always solve the problem unless people use them. I know that may sound flipant but it is not suppose to.
They will also look into the recycling facilities.
With regard to the landfill site I believe good work has already been done by local residents on this and the topic has been a forum page under Westmill Landfill Site and is now being dealt with by the Environment Agency are involved and reports need to be made to them. Check the forum pages for details.

Regards Sue.
