| We used the lido this morning. Pleased to say there was a fantastic turnout. Lots of families enjoying the beautiful weather. Water was lovely and warm which is always a bonus! |

| Had a good honeypot this afternoon and the attendents (in their very smart Millionaire sponsored tops) didn't mind a bit. |

| There used to be a clock on the side of the building (pool side), it would be great if it were replaced. The family and myself had a wonderful time sunday morning along with many, many others. Such an asset to the town. |

| Clock is now up on the wall for those of you who like to see how fast your lengths are! Lido is in need of any unwanted good quality garden furniture if anyone has any they no longer need. Donations will be very gratefully recieved :) |

| Lido's looking great - the damaged stonework (concrete) repaired! Like the sea themed murials. I'll be there for my lunchtime swim! |

Does the Lido still shut for lunch? |

| No, they clear out the kids & non-swimmers in favour of an hour of lap (length) swimming, for adults only. 1-2pm. Could do with slow/medium/fast lanes tho... |

| As promised to KPB, I went for my first visit to the Lido this morning. Despite having lived within a couple of miles for most of my adult life, I never got organised to visit before. It was brilliant! Thank you FoWL |

| Went to the lido Sunday, what a great day. Only complaint is people next to me deciding to light up cigarettes and let their smoke waft over my family, how pleasant, not! Why is the Lido not non smoking? Seems weird that the council allow it. |

Good to see positive coverage in the Herald about the Lido story and FoWL's efforts.
The Mercury have declined interest SO FAR, despite it being a local good news story; linked to the lovely summer we're having; and cover wider funding issues in the current climate. Now if it was the Hertford Lido.... |

Of course The Mercury have ignored it because it is in Ware and not Hertford. A couple of events that happened in Ware on Saturday (raft race, pavement artists) were not covered because The Mercury sent one photographer out to cover the raft race at 11am (it didn't start until 12.30) but he didn't bother going across the road to cover the pavement artists and he had to be elsewhere at 12.30. What you have to do is send in a report and pictures yourself (is this part of David Cameron's Big Society?) and then wait a month or two to see if they can be bothered to publish the story.
Glad to see that Hertford is still highlighted when I do a spell check. |

Good news! FOWL’s efforts have secured extra funding, which should enable the opening hours of the small pool to be extended from what Ware Town Council had originally planned and budgeted for.
Opening times are still being finalised, but the Lido will open on Sat 11th June (for 3 weeks limited opening & from 3rd July full opening). |

And also....
In the meantime, FOWL has 4 volunteer days planned in May at the Lido itself. Willing volunteers to help get the changing rooms and poolside areas looking their very best. This year, it is mainly cleaning, gardening and little bit of DIY planned. (They would also like to complete the lines on the bottom of the pool, but we have been informed 10 litres cost over £100.)
If you are a qualified electrician, they’d also be grateful of your details, as they would like to get new hairdryers installed. (This should help to encourage more local workers to swim in their lunch breaks).
If you can lend a hand on any of the dates below, between 10am-2pm (for an hour or 4!): # Sat 14th May 2011 # Tue 17th May 2011 # Fri 20th May 2011 # Sat 21st May 2011 please contact Liz at - FOWLIDO(at)GOOGLEMAIL.COM
Any help you can give will be appreciated by all! |

I'f somone knows the specific paint (type/colour etc) that is required for the lines in the pool, please let us know.
I will happily buy some and donate to the cause, perhaps others with not so much available time can do this to help if they wish.
thanks |
