We don't need a Wetherspoon in Ware. What we need is a nice Marks & Spencer. We don't need any more eating places or coffee shops.

It seems the closure was pretty instant as this was in the door yesterday evening

That's very sad for all of those who've lost their job

A good size shop like that would be just right for Tesco to open a "Home and Wear"

I read that as Psalm 27 and thought, I don't know that quote from the Book of Psalms. I checked and it's not there!
And then I read that a 'nice' M&S is being proposed on here. How will that be 'nice' and unlike all other shops, M&S or otherwise?

Touchpaper lit. Retires.

Because M&S (and Waitrose) would attract a better sort of person.

Perhaps some of us like Ware as it is now and don't wish to attract that 'better sort of person'. Won't this better sort of person in their 4x4's add to the suggested congestion in Watton Road or Viaduct Road as those awful Asda customers would have done.

Would Boots be interested in opening up a larger shop? I think Marks and Spencer's shop would be good. Would the site be too small for a Marks though?

We don't need any more FAST FOOD PLACES, CHEMISTS, HAIRDRESSERS, or CAFES. What we want is a nice Marks and Spencers or a Next.

It would probably be too small for a really useful M&S that sold clothes, but not for a food store.

I'm not altogether sure that a 'better sort of person' would necessarily be driving a 4x4.

I like Ware as it is too, but I much preferred it when there was a wider variety of shops to browse around.

What on earth is "a better sort of person"? Experiments in eugenics spring to mind when people use crap talk like that!

Probably just means M&S and Waitrose share of the highest earning managerial and professional demographic. Better an M&S than a Poundland.
I wish people would stop attacking others on the forum, the mock phoney outrage and professional offence-takers stifles debate and intimidates users from commenting - lets stick to the topics please

Anybody know who to contact at 'wonderful' ehdc who have planning control for Ware? ie someone who supports and promotes Ware. Our town partnership is great but ultimatley ehdc have 'control' and usually will not allow anything to out do stortford or hertford. A large Boots would be great (why did we end up with our tiny one anyway?) Next/River Island even better,

I think you're being unfair to EHDC in this case, they can only approve/reject planning applications for a shop to have structureal change or move to some other type of business, for example retail to food outlet. If anther store want to buy out this on the council do not get involved at all.

Perhaps you should write to the CEO of Next/River Island/Waitrose/M&S/Boots/Witherspoons/Whatever other business you can think of/ and suggest they'd like to come to Ware?

Nope, it was simply a tongue in cheek reference to all the discussions on here about shops attracting the wrong sort of people.

I agree with Ian, a Tesco Home & Wear would be great. They started the decline in the High St when they closed it so can make a start on getting things moving again. It wouldn't surprise me if they did just to stop a competitor taking it. Also, as Ian says, it would be easy with no permission needed.

(ps did I really see EHDC and promoting Ware used in the same sentence!!)
