This week is the final league game of the season and after all the high pressure games this week is a breeze!! All that’s required is for fourteenth placed Hertford to beat fifth placed Henley Hawks. Bottom placed (16th) Barnes to beat thirteenth placed Lydney. Finally fifteenth placed Westcombe Park to beat tenth placed Southend. Then Hertford stay up in National League 2 South so no pressure then. Kick offs 3 pm. |

The last game of the season is actually the Herts Presidents Cup, which is to be held at Harpenden RFC against Tring on Sunday. Again, Tring got to the final without playing a game and because of the Henley game on Saturday, the Hertford team will be mostly 2nd XV players - but no less good for that. |

52 - 0 for the last league game of the season was not the score that was needed but then even a win would not have been enough as they were then relying on the success or failure of other teams. The league was lost earlier in the season with games that Hertford should have won were lost. This being the clubs second venture into the higher league one can only hope that it will be third time lucky.
Sunday is the Hertfordshire Presidents Cup Final against Tring who got there without playing a game whereas Hertford had to play a semi-final which they obviously won. If the best this competition can raise is three teams does the significance of it not diminish?
Tring had no game yesterday where Hertford were playing for survival in the league, I expect a fair number of 2's players turning out for Hertford.
Despite all this I wish them well. |

| Three teams from the whole of Hertfordshire does seem a bit pathetic. Is it a scheduling issue? |

It is the fact that teams from the lowest leauge available get drawn against O£A's or Hertford or Biships Stortford and let them have a walkover rather than get beaten 50+ to nil and risk player injuries. The format is supposed to be changing next season to allow 8/9 clubs to actually have a proper cup competition. Tring won the cup today, about 40-0. They desrved it because they played better than Hertford 2nd XV. As Andy said, the first XV was involved in the final league game of the season yesterday, Tring had no game so could play their full team. A tough end to a tough season. |

| Seems like it might be sensible to schedule the competition differently, like have the final next week to allow a competitive game for example. |

You would have thought so MB1 but the schedule is not in the hands of Hertford RFC nor the chance of a fair competition. The final result 40 - 0 to Tring ends a season that Hertford will work very hard to live down and I'm sure plans are already being discussed for 2012/13. |

| It seems strange that the county rugby officials would do this. the model of the Herts Senior Cup on the football side should be instructive. All the teams in senior leagues put teams in, even Stevenage and Watford although they use a lot of their reserves). Bishop's Stortford won it this year after knocking out a Stevenage team with 7 first teamers. It's not the greatest competition on earth, but at least teams want to play in it. it gets played mid-week, and even so the amateur teams all play. |

| Your quite right MB1 and maybe Hertfordshire Rugby should take a look at their proceedures. |
