I have a grandmother living in Lynwood Road, and when visiting yesterday was shocked at the way she was treated by two knocking tradesman, claiming to be "Doing a survey about the insulation of her house on behalf of her energy suppliers."
I heard her politely decline and come back to the back door. These two men then followed her around to the back of the house, insisting on carrying out this "survey". She was clearly distressed by their following her and asked them repeatedly to leave. They simply started carrying out their survey, muscling past her in to the garden and measuring the patio aimlessly.
When I asked them who they worked for and received vague answers such as "Your energy company, a group of energy companies, a marketing surveying company on behalf of your energy company..." I demanded identification. They showed me a dog eared home made business card for a marketing company called MPJ(or an abbreviation like that)Marketing company. Clearly a load of rubbish, so I told them to leave and they refused. One couldn't understand me or speak English while the other said he would return the next day to speak to my Grandmother when I wasn't there. I had to physically push him out and shut the gate, although he tried to block the gate with his foot to stop me closing it.
My grandmother tells me that this happens "very often" and that similar men have been knocking on all the doors in the area, trying to sell to the elderly community around there.
This is clearly a scam, and I am very concerned at the way they harrassed an 82 year old woman, and refused to leave when asked. Is it possible that all the other knocking tradesman are part of the same racket? Also has anyone else had any experience of these knocking "marketing surveying companies" around the Lynwood road area?

| There seem to be some very aggressive "salesmen" around at the moment but this is the worst I've heard about. They are obviously targetting an area where they know some vulnerable people live. If I were you, I would bring it to the attention of our local police. Good thing you were there - I wonder how others with nobody to help them are coping? |

Thanks very much, I will report it this evening. It is very similar indeed to the reports on the link above.
I hope that the police will talk to a few residents in the road, at least that way the "salesmen" may be scared off! |

| I would have called the police there and then. They were trespassing. Like the posts above, I doubt these are legitimate salesmen but criminals. In fact I would have called the police without their knowledge and then kept them talking until the police arrived, but that's easy to suggest with the benefit of hindsight. |
