I find it somewhat ironic that the business that have really made an effort to decorate their premises in the spirit of Jubilee, are the Indian restaurants and pizza take-a-ways where the majority of the staff are from other countries.
Even the pubs, that usually go to town for football, aren't showing any sign of patriotism this weekend.
It doesn't happen often, but Hertford have got one over on Ware this time! The town centre looks great! |

I must say I agree with you. I was in Hertford on Monday and thought it looked very festive.
It will look better for the Olympic torch though! |

| That's because all over the bank holiday weekend all trade will be going to the big out of town malls, cebters and supermarkets, so why bother? |

I noticed that. They obviously pass the Tebbit test then.

And in another first for Hertford, the mayor has a blog, in stark contrast to Ware Town Council's fear of social networking.

| I'm not denying some shops have done well, a lot of them have their displays in the window so it's not obvious. |

| Perhaps something of the radical Puritan spirit of the town has survived sine the 1640s. Ware was, after all, at the dedicated heart of one of the most anti-monarchy bits of England back then. Of course, so was hertford.... |

Off topic for sure and from a mod. (Tsk). AND, it's factually incorrect. Jan Wing was blogging over 10 years ago when she was Mayor of Ware. This was before the term blogging was as well known. Subsequent Mayors didn't continue and posts were deleted. |

George Bernard Shaw quotes, vote for your favourite.
http://en.thinkexist.com/quotation/patriotism_is_a_pernicious-psychopathic_form_of/166589.html “Patriotism is a pernicious, psychopathic form of idiocy”
“Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all others because you were born in it.” “You'll never have a quiet world till you knock the patriotism out of the human race.” “Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious.”

The Queen is head of the commonwealth though and India is still a member. |

WTC are very active on Twitter. I did wonder if the bunting could have been kept from the summer and eeked out for this week. Hindsight eh? |
