For the last couple of weeks I have noticed a large bird of prey over North East Ware. It has a lighter body than wings and light/white markings on its wings. It glides but doesn't hover. Has anyone else seen it or knows what it is?

It's a Red Kite. They are nesting towards Knebworth/ Stevenage way I believe.

Yep, red kite. We get one or two driting over High Cross as well.

I recently drove up the M40 from the M25 to Oxford, and counted 21 red kites!

Red kite - very distinctive forked tail as the photo shows. There are four or five in the area now - developing very successfully after being reintroduced on Ot Moor by the M40 north of Oxford.

They are set upon the seagulls at the Biffa tip approx. 6pm each night - look out for them!
