| What on earth happened this morning? the 8.03am Ware to Liverpool St arrived at 8.50am at Ware (with no announcements from the train station staff)and then crawled to London stopping at every single station, it was diabolical! |

| I'm not surprised the station staff made no announcements - they never bother. I've brought it up with both NXEA and Greater Anglia on numerous occasions, and they've always promised to look into it and to tell staff to make announcements, but nothing's changed. Totally useless. Glad I wasn't travelling this morning! |

There was a broken down train at Cheshunt earlier and it caused delays to most later services. I was on the 7.32 and had similar frustrations. The driver did not say a word until we were crawling into L.Street half an hour later than scheduled. Then he explained.
The only reason I knew what was going on is from the Twitter feed which is very good and bang up to date. It's worth getting Twitter just for this (and not for much else!) |

Oddly enough Trev I remembered this twitter feed mentioned before so whilst I was standing on the platform trying to kill 3/4 hour this morning I tried setting up a twitter account. Stupid question then, is there a twitter 'website' or whatever it is in the twitter world for this guy?
I get so fed with greater anglia website, it's complete rubbish. Actually to illustrate this point now I am on a moan, the greater anglia website will show a train going into Hertford as cancelled but not appreciating that a train then going the other way will be cancelled and show it as thus, doh!! talk about a lack of common sense, moan over!! |

| Matt40, the Greater Anglia Twitter feed is here https://twitter.com/greateranglia I agree with trev, it's usually the best source of information and very up to date. They actually respond to customers' tweets too! |

Yes I wa there for the 8.02 hazing for work with some friends who were trying to get to Stratford for the Olympics! Information at Ware was poor , the departure board kept changing bit no announcements. When asked the staff sayings they didn't know what was happening! Perhaps someone should provide them with a Twitter feed so they could follow Greater Anglia.
Once we get moving I thought the driver get a good job of letting us know what was happening.

| Another terrible day after yesterday (same problem not fixed well?). I now read those twitter feeds but how do you tweet the guy a question? All I see is his replies... |

Seems like I picked a good to work from home!
To tweet him you need to include (at)greateranglia (might be (at)greateranglia2 ) in the tweet, ideally at the start - that has worked for me |

If 'the worst day ever' means that you have had a lot of trouble and stress getting to and from work I envy you. I read the title of the thread and wasn't sure I wanted to read it. It is harsh when things outside of your control seem to contrive to absolutely mess your day up, but no-one died and you are still around in good health to tell us about it. |

I must agree with Billywindsock. We are all alive and well. Even by re-naming this topic as Worst Rail Travelling Day Ever, still wouldn't quite fit the bill as I am old enough to remember commuting to work on a Steam Train. The noise was just about bearable but the smell was obnoxious and the thick black smoke covered your suit in ash and you clothes smelt awful all day at work. By the time you got home from work you just wanted to jump into a bath fully clothed to get rid of the stench of coal ash combined with cigarette smoke from fellow passengers and workers. No showers in those days. For me one of the best travelling days ever was the day when British Rail stopped running steam trains and electrified the line. I still commute to London and will complain if the train is late or doesn’t run – but really the service is better, faster, quieter and cleaner than in the “good old days of steam”.

I do not envy the battles people have to get to work on time, at the whim of metal thieves, mechanical failures and weather related mess ups. I saw the title and visions of mangled people, death and destruction flew through my mind. My simple 25 minute car ride to work has sometimes been extended to over an hour because of traffic problems, but however long I have to wait, I am grateful it is not me that has been squished in the cars that are causing the hold up.
