There is currently an advert for permanent lab analysts at Ware on the GSK website (GSK.com, job ref. 77771).
Closing date is this Friday (17th Aug).

And is this a relevant discussion topic for Wareonline?

Not in my opinion!

Let's hope that this job doesn't involve any of the animal testing 'research' that GSK does.

They only do animal testing research because the law states that they must do so before any drug can be used by humans.
It then undergoes human testing to check for side effects etc.
Until the law is changed so that they can issue drugs that have only been tested on only skin cultures etc, animal testing will never end.

Just remember that everytime you take a headache pill.

And ware is a manufacturing base for GSK
Research is at Harlow, Stevenage and the Frith in WGC

I can't see a problem with this post either. I'm looking for work at the moment and if I was a Lab Technician I would have been grateful for this notification.

Agree, why have a 'Jobs' section if inappropriate?

This is right for the forum. GSK is the biggest employer in the town, let local people know about work.

OK I concede that this is an appropriate post. However, it has generated lots of discussion, which is what it all about at the end of the day!

Well said skippy. Inadequate testing without living systems to test it on is a fraught way forward. Difficult, but essential if thalidomide like cases are to be avoided as much as humanly possible.

Fyi GSK's UK Research is carried out at Stevenage and Ware (Park Road) but no longer at the Frythe or Harlow (both closed) I believe. Ware (Priory Street) is indeed Manufacturing.

I must say, I was slightly puzzled by the initial responses to my post, but it seems that common sense has prevailed and the posting of a job in the job section has been vindicated!
As to the subject of animal testing, that's down to an individual if they choose not to apply for what they see as moralistic reasons...it's a well known fact that GSK, along with every other pharma company tests on animals, not because they want to, but because there is a regulatory requirement for them to do so.

Relax - its a classic WoL discussion, with a slightly anti-GSK flavour. It always comes out right in the end :))
