Flat conversion for 17th century building
The building in Amwell End, Ware
A grade II listed building in Amwell End will soon be transformed into four flats. The derelict building, which has been empty since it was an Indian restaurant several years ago, is now damp and decaying.Developer Sarbir won planning permission from government inspectors earlier this month, after East Herts Council failed to make a decision quickly enough. The Stansted company will also be permitted to build two flats behind the former restaurant, which is in a conservation area. The district council said it was "generally happy" with the plans as they now stood. It had opposed an earlier proposal for four new flats.Officers highlighted Sarbir's previous good work in the restoration of other listed buildings in the district.Sarbir couldn't say when work would start or how much it would cost but company bosses were delighted with the decision.
