A party of 20 Visitors from Ware visited Wulfrath, Germany this weekend to formally renew the Pledge of Friendship between the 2 towns, now in it's 29th Year.

The programme for the visit was a mixture of social and formal events, with a very watery visit to Kaiserswerth an historic suburb of Dusseldorf on Saturday followed by a trip down the Rhine to the Yacht Club of Dusseldorf (Photo of Ware party with hosts) for a traditional meal and a return boat trip. This was followed with a very informal evening held in a Barn belonging to the president of the Wulfrath Town Twinning Organisation when traditional soup and sausages and local Alt Beer was enjoyed by the party.

On Sunday morning a Formal Council meeting was held for the visiting delegation and the Wulfrath Council. The formal speeches (spoken in both languages) from Burgermeister Ulrich Eilebrecht and Mayor Jan Wing both stressed the need to ensure that the young people of the towns need to be involved. This was also the subject of the speeches of the Wulfrath President of Town Twinning (Herr Heinrich Meckenstock and Vice Chairman of Ware Twinning Mr Roy Mansfield) The town's swimming clubs already exchange regularly but a link with the schools would help to strengthen the exchanges. A Formal signing of the Pledge of Friendship was witnessed by the assembled guests and councillors and followed by an exchange of gifts (See photos).

If you are interested in being involved with the Twinning Association please contact Cllr Victoria Shaw c/o the Priory or visit their web page on Ware Online.
