Car parks now free

Tuesday 31 March 2020

Car parks owned and operated by the District Council are now free of charge.

Cllr Graham McAndrew, executive member for Environmental Sustainability at East Herts Council, said: “To support essential NHS and police staff, as well as residents that have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“From Monday 30 March we will stop charging in all East Herts car parks and will suspend enforcement of our on-street permit parking bays and limited waiting bays.”

Permits in residential Controlled Parking Zones will be extended by three months. This will happened automatically - there will be no need for permit holders to apply.

Double yellow lines however will still be enforced, along with obstructive or dangerous parking, as well as in parking disabled parking bays and loading bays.

Parking enforcement officers will continue carrying out work across the district. There have been reports of abuse directed at enforcement officers ad the council have said that this will not be tolerated. "These individuals are carrying out their duties whilst observing social distancing guidelines to ensure public safety so we ask that you treat them with respect".

Council run car parks include those in Broadmeads, Baldock Street, Kibes Lane and the library.
