If you replace it with a new one you will also need a new electronic panel as the old and new versions are incompatible, unless you can find an old version from somewhere, but then if the electronic panel ever goes your back to square one! ...

Air to Air heat exchangers? We talking Air source heat pumps i presume? as opposed to heat recovery systems. Most ASHP systems in the uk are air to water. Air to air would be similar to a air conditioning unit working in reverse.
