Single Party Councils - like East Herts - waste Billions

Post by Damo5 »

Report from Electoral Reform Society estimates that across the country, councils with no opposition, such as East Herts, collectively waste £2.6 billion a year through poor and potentially corrupt procurement processes, due to the lack of oversight from a meaningful and competitive opposition

And with George Osborne cutting central funding to Councils and allowing them to set their own business rates as part of wider fiscal autonomy, this problem will only get worse. It isn;t confined to any one party either, its the norm for all parties when they have unfettered control of a council.
