I am putting this question out on Ware Online to see if anyone can suggest someone who can help locally?
I have a vacuum cleaner which is faulty and just outside of the 1 year warranty.
The seller has asked me to get an accredited engineer to carry out an independent report on this item.
If it is found to be a manufacturers fault the item will be replaced, and for me the cost of the report reimbursed.
I have been told that the report must be on letter headed paper and be completed by an accredited engineer, for me to then send to the seller.
Would anyone know of someone local who can do this? I have contacted Domesticare and they are not able to complete the report side of this request, but do vacuum repairs, so I am unable to use them.
I am looking for someone reasonably priced in case the seller does not honour reimbursing me the costs of the report, which I naturally will pay the engineer for upfront myself.
All this for an item which is over its 1 year guarantee by 1 week, and only cost £50 in the first place.
Please can anyone let me know any contacts you may have who can do this, or any other you out there you maybe able to do the report yourself?
Thanks in advance,
Andrew.
Vacuum cleaner - independent report needed
Re: Vacuum cleaner - independent report needed
Can’t help with an engineer I’m afraid and this probably comes down to principle of the matter, as it's failed just outside of the warranty period, but I do feel you are chucking good money after bad. I can imagine the report will not be far short of the original price of the vacuum with no guarantee you will get this back depending on their findings.
Re: Vacuum cleaner - independent report needed
Itsme,
Thank you for your reply.
To be honest I'm kind of keen to get the report done, as I really believe that their is a fault with the manufacture of the vacuum I bought.
I of course am interested to hear how much these kind of reports cost, but like you think it will be £40 or £50 for the report!
If anyone else knows of anyone who can in theory do this report for me, and is local, then please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the local Trading Standards office? They may have a list.

Eric/Roy Frith have a domestic appliance repair shop in Talbot Street, Hertford. If they can't help with the report then they may know someone who can... 01992 503991

I admire your resolve on this Andrew, I'd just use it as an excuse to upgrade to a fancy Dyson or something but then I'm lazy about these things!
