Town and District Council

Post by IGS »

Just thought I'd start a new thread now that we know who the councils are made up of so that people can post their views and gripes on here about what we expect from our councillors. We know that some of them at least read WOL and have posted on here. They may be told to stop posting by their group leader but that shouldn't stop them reading WOL.

One thing I've noticed is that Jeanette Taylor is once again a Town Councillor, she was and still is a District Councillor and also a County Councillor. I believe that this level of power can lead to some strange voting patterns from her; not all Councillors have voted the same way on district level as they have done at town level. So what happens if county level Tories have a different agenda yet again from district or town and she toes the party line at all 3 levels? Some conflict surely.

Yes, the District Plan is going to be a big issue for Ware with the tories threatening to build an entire new town on the north side of Ware, swamping the character of the town entirely. Who will oppose this now? Can we expect town councillors who are also district councillors to mount any opposition. Somehow I doubt it.

You are mistaken, a new town would have an infrastructure, GPs, school, shops etc, there are no plans for any of that at present.

Has anyone noticed how few of our new representatives actually live in the North of the town?

Has anybody else noticed that our new councillors, who were very vocal before the election, haven't said a word since?

Before the election great play was made of engaging with the people of Ware. One way is for them to attend council meeting to see what our representatives actually do (might encourage more to stand or maybe put them off even more). This is difficult if the information is not available and the WTC website is poor in this regard.
This list of meetings with agendas and minutes is incomplete, the first meeting of the new council had no agenda or minutes, the town meeting, which was poorly publicised again, is missing completely as are a number of other past meetings. The last TLA meeting had the wrong date on the calendar of meetings.

I have drawn this to the attention of the council offices but had no response at all.

(for the sake of balance I did contact David Oldridge recently on another issue and he replied immediately)

The Masked Woler:

I will bring up that concern for you on Monday at Ware Town Council's next full council meeting. It is very important that the town council engages local residents. I am already looking into how we can publish more information online so that people can access it.

Kind Regards,

Thanks,

I would also mention the WTC notice board on the wall near the museum - in the past this has had information about the council but, when I last looked, it was all events by other organisations. It was also very hard to see through the glass.
