Laptop repairs

Post by Scottman »

My trusty laptop has decided it doesn't like starting up - or at least the screen wont light up, leaving me in the dark as it were.

Any recommendations on who locally could review, diagnose and possibly fix?

Hello Scottman - are you able to get a display by connecting it to an external monitor (if you have one)? That may tide you over 'til you find the right local person to get it fixed!

I've heard many good things about ITS Digital in Bengeo High Street.

This Ware company has been good for sorting my computer on a couple of occasions.

I was always under the impression this site was all about local business etc..... i can see some people have suggested out of ware in bengeo etc but we have a shop smack bang in our own high Street that well does this and it's their bread and butter i.e. fixing computers... just saying...

Its also about local people being advised on what's best for them when they ask and hopefully its something local but not always.

Thanks for responses - mindful of Mancunian's point I used the group in the High Street and am pleased with their diagnosis, if not with the implications. Repair or replace - a marginal decision on cost.

But it seems that there are not yet any Windows 10 new laptops available - only those with Windows 8.1 for which you can do the free upgrade to Windows 10 - apparently a less successful and stable solution than a proper Windows 10 package. Two month wait for these to wash through ...

And when did they stop preloading the standard software package ?

Hi Scott man. Sorry to hear the bad laptop news. On Windows 10 I would just say that we have downloaded this for our youngest son's new laptop. The download was long but trouble free and the operating system has worked just fine. So I wouldn't necessarily let this hold you back.

I've upgraded a two year old laptop and a brand new PC from Windows 8.1 to 10 without any issues.
