New Trains and Additional Service at Ware

Post by Steve »

Abellio have been awarded the franchise for Gerrater Anglia for 2016-25.

Their entire fleet of trains is to be replaced and the frequency of trains from Ware will be increased to 3 an hour.

Thanks for this info Craig.

The extra train per hour is fantastic news.

Well done to our local Conservative MP Mark Prisk on the work he has put in to help achieve this.

Good to see more trains per hour though the detail is missing. I am assuming until there is more news that three an hour is in rush-hour periods only. If so that would bring the service back to what it was in the 1960s immediately after electrification. Would be good if it was all day and, for me, Saturdays too.

Almost guarantee that the Ware line will be amongst the last to get the new trains, stanstead express and Cambridge always take priority......

The Stansted Express already uses the new Electrostar trains delivered 5 years ago.

Just a point to the poster below, we only have 2 trains an hour to Liverpool St during rush hour (i.e. trains that could get you to work by 9:30 at the latest).
7:01am and 7:31am, then next one at 8:01.
After that for some reason is the 8:21 to Stratford and not Liverpool St (and whilst you can change you would still only arrive at the station with seconds to spare before 9:30 so would presumably be late for work for most commuters I guess?)
And then in fact there is one at 8:43, which seems a complete waste of time (only talking selfishly for me) as it gets in to Liverpool St after 9:30, so you are late before you've even arrived. I've always wondered why they didn't just put this one at 8:31, following the x:01 x:31 pattern. It would probably alleviate a lot of strain off the 8:01.

Anyway, fingers crossed they stick to it.
