Unfortunately the model that we currently follow of "care in the community" which while cheaper to run does ensure we set people up to fail and then dish out sentencing to lock them away.
A simple but not very cost effective solution ultimately.
Far better to have a society they looks out for folks as they start to go off the rails and help then than sit back and await the train crash.
Yes we're all responsible but help at the right time can save a lot of grief later.

It's a very emotional divisive topic for sure. I tend to come at it from a more medical than a 'string 'em up' angle. I read somewhere that 95 per cent of paedophilles know their 'urges' are abhorrent and illegal and do not act on them, whether that's true or not is open to debate. If it's true then the other 5 per cent need locking up for society safety but I can't help but wonder why modern science can't work out why how these people 'tick' to eliminate the threat, perhaps it's nurture rather than nature...

In many cases it is, some simply never learn what constitutes a normal relationship and equate abuse with love.
Many kids who have been abused (but certainly not all by any means) will sadly end up charged with similar offences and some, who have been subject to the worse abuse, are not considered safe to be in the community at all and end up imprisoned for someone else's crimes.

Whether proper intervention at the time could save them I have no idea but some experts are of the view that by age 7 or 8 it is too late.

Because my opinion differs from yours, and I suspect the majority of people would differ with you on this topic, does not give you the right to hand out abuse and insult.
I should also point out that the children need protecting from these people not them protected from the parents of children.
I am not and do not get angry I just have an opinion but in your case its possible I could make an exception!

I agree that prevention is the better option and that those aware of the potential danger should have done more to put in place measures to ensure that this did not happen. As Enoughofthat says, however abhorrent this person's actions, with the right support at the right time, this may have been preventable. The 'string him up' approach achieves nothing.
