Flood Warning for Ware
Re: Flood Warning for Ware
At 3.30ish. You can see the small 'puddle' developing where the water is coming over.
Re: Flood Warning for Ware
There must be some homes affected - we've just got back from Wodson and they have opened to receive flood victims.
Re: Flood Warning for Ware
Someone has just posted on facebook that the towpath at back of tap bar near priory is under about a foot of water, can't verify it as in london but they said they couldn't get down off the bridge,
Re: Flood Warning for Ware
Taken at the same time.
Re: Flood Warning for Ware
Indeed, you couldn't walk underneath the bridge earlier, sounds like it's getting worse though from your comments, it wasn't a foot of water then.
Re: Flood Warning for Ware
By 4.30 the water had risen quite a bit more! Click on the picture and select 'view image' to see the towpath.

Yes that's definitely worse!
I presume they have opened up the meads for flooding? I might have another wander down. Talking to some elderly 'Warites' down there and they said they have never seen it that bad....

Re: Flood Warning for Ware
Don't they divert excess water onto the meads when the river levels get high and flood that for a brief respite? Although I guess they are pretty waterlogged by now as well. Not too sure on the science of it all as you can probably tell

Re: Flood Warning for Ware
I think there are a number of sluice controlled sidefalls that discharge to the meads when the river level reaches critical levels. Bit weird if this in not happening semi automatically. The levels at Ware lock are fairly automatic and there is a much more complex system at Hardmead lock - half way to Stanstead Abbotts
