There are 14 hotels in the portfolio, not just The Roebuck.Barzey wrote:It just doesn't ring right at all. The new owners would have been aware of the pending Premier Inns intentions. Surely their research before buying the Roebuck wasn't as shallow as they are making out?

Re: The Roebuck Hotel
Walked past it tonight. It's amazing how quickly a building can look so dilapidated
Looks so run down and I can see why the previous and current owners have taken a view it's uneconomical. Looks like it needs a heck of a lot of money spent to just bring the exterior up to a standard. Makes you wonder what the inside needed.
A town asset ( or one that should have been ) gone

The St James Group bought the Forestdale Group within a few days of it going into administration, so I doubt the Premier Inn would have been on their horizon for Ware or would have affected their decision to acquire the group as there were 14 hotels in the purchase as noted by SteveBarzey wrote:It just doesn't ring right at all. Re: The Roebuck Hotel
Shame, a few local businesses could buy it as a cooperative, invest in it and and restore it. Any one interested ?? Its wrong to pull it down and build houses.
I offer to be the GM I have experience of taking hotels out of receivership and putting them back on the map.

So that's that then! Another block of soul less houses for Ware probably.

Re: The Roebuck Hotel
Not that I disagree with the outcome but refused on the grounds of being at risk of flooding ? Is that run off from the Fire Station ?
Surely the hotel site is in a raised part where, if that was at risk of flooding then, large parts of the estate (Gladstone Rd) would be under water ? Along with most parts of Ware Town Centre ?

I think it's officially in a flood plain isn't it? but in all seriousness the river would have to rise by biblical standards to present a problem
Re: The Roebuck Hotel
According to this week's Star One Property Group (who were going to develop the site on behalf of St. James' Hotel Management) the site will now sit vacant for twelve months. It is already becoming an eyesore. What will it be like in a year?
