Wonder how they know it will be 12 months ? Sounds like a thinly veiled threat.

However it does look an eyesore and did within days of closing. Weeds take no time at all to take hold and how long before upper windows are broken ? Could be the towns next Musley School but with a lot less character.

Sad to see but the planning process should never be bullied into a decision which isn't right.

Surely, the hotel could do with a part time caretaker for so many hours a week (memories of The Shining!), it would not be a great expense for the new owner. It just looks awful already.

Someone to turn out the lights in at least 3 of the upper floor rooms would be a start. Save themselves money on wasted energy bills ;)

There might be a security guard on site to ward off metal thieves and other unwanted intruders - which might explain the lights being on in.

The lights were definitely on last night, thought it might be squatters who had moved in.

There were surveyors working at the Roebuck site the other day. anyone heard anything on the grapevine about future intentions of the owners?

Seems like the St James hotel group is pulling a Roebuck on other sites too. The hotel in this article will close with houses planned for the site, and another in Bournemouth too. Looks like their initial pledge to keep the Roebuck open was just a cynical ploy as part of the purchase process. Councillors take note.

I suspect you're right, I've noticed over the past few days there's a traffic monitor appeared on the road just past the entrance, usually they do his to judge how much traffic there is prior to starting the planning process.

Presumably if we use the road more, this will force some sort of "improved" entrance/exit if the conjecture is right and there is a re-application for a housing estate? Time will tell...

Not more houses... How many more can they squeeze in? Every bit of spare land in Ware seems to be being built on currently, even bits of land that are so small I used to walk past them without noticing there was a space! It's probably the same in other towns unfortunately.
