Flood Warning for Ware

The Environment Agency has listed a flood warning for Hertford and Ware, apparently more serious for Hertford:

http://maps.environment-agency.gov.uk/w ... yerGroup=1

The Lea is very, very high down by the lock and along to the bridge by the Sarries. The EA says that absent more rain it will peak this morning, so probably won't be high enough to flood the town although I would think another night of rain like last night could see some flooding into the Meads.

Which is exactly what the Meads were always for, of course...

You mean, they weren't there for building on...?

In this day and age anything is possible. Do I remember reading somewhere about "houses on stilts" could be built on the Meads?

You mean like this:

(Except for the stuff that isn't, which I assume is the "affordable housing")

I see from Facebook that the towpath by the river in the town is now underwater. Not sure it has bern this bad in decades.

I walked down there with the kids (well it is a once in a lifetime view...) just now and yes the bit where you feed the ducks is now underwater but the pathway between the two town bridges is just ok, I noticed it was breaking in one place though... Fast moving water, be careful
