I noticed that there is a Sold sign on the old Wine Lodge; any ideas?

Noticed that the other day and was surprised to be honest as it has been empty a while.
To paraphrase a number of ideas on previous threads we should be hoping for (as the High St needs moving upmarket apparently)
1) An artisanal Bakery / Charcuterie that only stocks produce from 3 villages in North East Italy
2) An organic green grocer that only sells Heritage Carrots, multicoloured Beetroot, Chicory & Fennel
I for one hope we get any kind of enterprise that will mean the building is occupied and trading. I have no idea what that may be but I wish whoever it is, all the best in their attempts at running a profitable business.
Anything is better than an empty shop

I think it means someone has bought it.
It was up for auction a few weeks ago.
As I recall there has already been an application for a hot food take away but the council didn't like the proposal to tear out the windows and put in an aluminium shop front.

Rumour has it and I repeat a rumour, that it will return/stay as a pub. (with no help/thanks from MuckMullens whatsoever!). Something like a pie n pint concept apparently or something like that but, like I say like Gregory Isaacs 'rumours are spreading'.

The change of use to hot food takeaway was allowed.

Let's hope for a decent bar venue to rival Hertford

To be fair the decision to allow a change of use was taken over 2 years ago and the High Street has changed since then. According to the Mercury it will open as a pub, so no change of use after all, but we all know how accurate the Mercury is!

If someone is going to turn it back into a pub it will need a shed load of investment.
I looked at the spec a while back and the outgoing owners have ripped the guts out of the place, its basically a shell.
I hope it is a pub, something along the lines of the CraftBeerCo family
http://thecraftbeerco.com/ would be fantastic.
Brighton, Brixton, Clapham, Clerkenwell, Covent garden, Islington, Ware ........it just rolls off the tongue.
