Help with computer virus please

Post by REG »

I appear to have a nasty virus on my computer. Lots of advertisements popping up all over and a very slow system. I am not that computer literate, so please someone help me. I tried down loading a free AVG but cant seem to get the free version with money being asked of me each time I open up. I have posted this from my tablet, which seems fine. ???

download if you can - malwarebytes, it's free for 30 days, that one is great for picking up bugs and nasty things, also i have a few good add ons to my firefox browser called adblock and adblock+ these 2 block all adverts and pop ups but its on firefox and don't know what browser you use, there are other ones like malwarebytes out there such as avast and so on, don't bother with AVG free as it won't do the job, if all else fails try the computer shop in high street as i'm sure they can do stuff like that but again unsure.

malwarebytes is good, I can't remember exactly what is in it. I use advanced system care now, you can get a free download on download.com, which encompasses everything you'd need e.g. malware destory, registry cleaner, defrag. It does the lot in order, it's like a pc spring clean!

Malwarebytes is ok, but not good at detecting patched files or "stealth" viruses (rootkits). Currently dealing with a system right now - allegedly "cleaned" by Malwarebytes but there is still something sinister lurking in the background that WILL be removed!

I use Malwarebytes and Adblock+ with Firefox and find them excellent. You can get Adblock+ for Internet Explorer. A lady in the flat upstaird was having to deal with a very slow computer and endless pop up adverts before she could read her e-mails. Adblock+ cleared everything.

Ok so cleared 100, s of objects and then just as a caution ran another scan - already detected 29 objects and this is an hour in?..
How long does a full scan normally take?

Depending on the number of files and programmes you have it can take several hours. A quick scan only takes about 15 minutes (on my desktop, less on my laptop) and is usually fine once you have got rid of all of the deep rooted problems.

Hi there 'Brassdoorknob' I think I recall seeing on the website that Anti-malwarebytes does offer a free 'Rootkit' cleaner now - its worth a look anyway.
