Silicone

Post by Happychat »

We've just fitted a new bath, shower etc in our bathroom. Does anyone know a tradesperson who can do a neat, tidy job with a silicon gun to finish off?

I could recommend a tiler - Ricky of R&B Tiling who will do a professional job. Let me know if you'd like me to contact you.

This looks great. Shame there isn't a local supplier. I'll be "fabricating" one myself me thinks as I have to do this today.

Or just use your finger, some water and an old rag to wipe off excess! :o

You're exposing yourself as someone who has clearly never done it. ;)

Thanks for all your very helpful comments. I have used my finger in the past but this time wanted a more professional job

Job done. I went with the tried and tested finger method. Looks acceptable, but if I had a Fugi, I'm sure I would look marvellous.

Does it work as well as shown on the video? I've tried all sorts, finger, masking tape, lolly stick, all been ok but not as neat as the video.

Pretty much. Maybe not quite the walk in the park as they make it, but it is very easy and will leave a very neat finish. Its important not to use too much silicone though as otherwise you'll be having to keep wiping the excess off the tool every few inches.

I would never recommend using a finger as it leaves a smear down the sides of your corner, although if you want to tidy this up you can use a straight edge and a sharp knife to cut the smear away from your corner and then rub it off with a dry finger.
