TfL takeover

Not strictly Ware I know, but on the Tfl website there is a warning of reduced services on the 'new' lines in Hertfordshire due to, and I quote " an unexpected shortage of drivers"

Unexpected, how much notice do they need for heavens sake. The expression which included the words frying pan and fire springs to mind.

I'm not sure what point is being made ?

If it's the fact that drivers did not transfer from Abellio to Tfl Rail then that's their choice and may mean less driver shortages on our lines.

If it was how much notice do they need to recruit drivers then that is not a simple task. New Drivers takes months to recruit, train and develop. There is a relatively high drop out number during this process and even at assessment stage if you fail you cannot apply again for 6 months and if you fail twice you will not be considered again by any rail company. Assessment process is a 5/6 stage interview all on one day including Basic Mechanics, Rules & Procedure learning, Concentration Test, Reaction Test and 2 interviews.

If it was short notice shortages this weekend then that can also happen as the Rail industry only works on the basis there is a shortage and drivers are willing to work extra overtime shifts to cover all services.

Maybe they have had a recruitment issue and are not where they needed to be but had committed to taking on these services. I agree it doesn't sound good but all in all not as easy as one might think.

It was on yesterday's Tfl website, where it tells you the level of service on each line. There was a special service on Overground lines it had just taken over, due to etc, etc.

I am almost beginning to wish I had never started this thread.

doesn't affect us directly on our branch line see below:

Services transferring to TfL on 31st May

On 31 May 2015 the operation of the following local services in north and east London will transfer to TfL:

The local train service between Shenfield and Liverpool Street will transfer to TfL Rail. As part of the change, Brentwood will move to Zone 9
The services between Enfield Town/Chingford and Liverpool Street will transfer to London Overground
The services between Cheshunt and Liverpool Street via Theobalds Grove will transfer to London Overground
The services between Romford and Upminster via Emerson Park will transfer to London Overground

The service from Cheshunt to Liverpool Street via Tottenham Hale will continue to be operated by Abellio Greater Anglia from 31 May 2015. However, to provide consistent fares between Cheshunt and Liverpool Street, pay as you go fares on this route will be the same as for those services transferring to TfL. This means the same TfL Zone 3-2 fare of £1.70p peak and £1.50p off-peak will apply for journeys such as White Hart Lane or Northumberland Park to Hackney Downs.
