Trouble at Lido

Post by mb1 »

There was something of a ruckus down at the Lido this afternoon. The Police were called after people from the fair refused to pay to get in and refused to leave when asked to do so by staff. The Lido ended up being closed early leaving a lot of really annoyed Ware people and some saying on Facebook they won't visit the fair this year because of the aggressive and unpleasant behaviour by those who work there.

A smaller version of this happened last year too when fair people got really aggressive with the lifeguards asking them to stop smoking and to stop behaving aggressively around children.

I'm posting this here as some town councillors have been reading threads recently and this is the quickest way of getting through to them. The Town Council wants the fair here as part of Ware Festival, and so do most people in Ware. But this kind of nastiness can;t be tolerated, especially when so many primary school aged kids are put at risk. The Council has to get serious with the fair about keeping their staff in check, really just to behave as if they were civilised human beings. If the fair can't do that, then perhaps another fair is needed.

I took my 6 year old down at 5pm for a quick swim and caught all the families being asked to all leave because of the trouble by the people from the fair ground. I doubt I will bother going down there until the fairness gone.

3 Police cars in attendance in the Wednesday already, I wonder how many more times they will be called out for various incidents over the next week.

Why do we continue to blight our beautiful town by inviting these scumbags into the town each year.

How much money will the Lido have lost because of this ?, It will put people off for the next week or so., and in perfect Lido weather too....

The Fair over the years has always attracted trouble, and is a total rip off. I wouldn't miss it if it was dropped from the Calender.

So now the mercury has a story and apparently there is a meeting to try to sort this out with the fair tonight.

I am looking into this matter to establish all of the facts.

It is correct that there was trouble at the Lido yesterday which was pretty much as the Mercury reported. It is not correct that the group causing trouble were connected to the fair. This evening I have spoken to John Manning who runs the fair. He has confirmed that yesterday all the fairground traders finished setting up early and had a day out together away from Ware. No-one from the fair was at the Lido. Mannings Fair are members of the Guild of Showmen , a professional body and have a 100 year association with Ware.

I was at the fair tonight and all the fair people were, as always, wonderful. Throughout the history of travellers, wherever they go, there has been trouble because SOME of the, generally but not always, younger people will cause trouble and hope that it gets blamed on the travelling community.

Absolute horses@#t

I was there at precisely 5.05 as it happened. I then watched them all pour out into the park and start causing issues and begin an argument with an older man who complained to them...then after about 20 mins, they all filed back together into the park holding th fair.

Hmmmm, so the entire fair went out for the day leaving the entire site, equipment and caravans unattended., difficult to believe.

'Out for the day'? The law of averages dictates that this is nonsense when this has happened year on year precisely when the fair is in town. How many coincidences does it take for it to become a pattern? My opinion says only two and the owner of the fair is lying through his back teeth for want of a better expression.
