Car Parking in Ware

Has anybody heard about the changes to the car parks in Ware? Is it true that the season ticket holders will have to use the long stay car parks only???

I had also heard the rumours and rang EHDC this morning. According to EHDC Car Parks in Ware will change as of the 1st of February in the following ways: Long Stay Car Parks will remain as Long Stay Car Parks (i.e. Kibes Lane North & South, Broadmeads and Baldock Street I think), however will have no two-hour parking - it will be 2.50 per day for however long you park. Short Stay Car Parks will change from paying for up-to-2, up-to-4, up-to-6 and up-to-8 hours to up-to-1, up-to-2, up-to-3 or up-to-4 hours maximum. Season Tickets will remain valid in all Ware Car Parks (both Long and Short Stay) until the 31st March 2004. When new tickets are purchased for 1st April 2004 to 31st March 2005 they will only be valid for the Long Stay Car Parks in Ware. This will mean a huge shortage of Long Stay Car Parking in Ware as not only are the 5 and 6 hour users being driven into the Long Stay Car Parks, but the Season Ticket holders currently parking in Short Stay Car Parks to release spaces for the town's workers will also be forced into the Long Stay Car Parks. There is precious little parking for employees as it is, without creating more strains for an already difficult situation. Perhaps if they paved over the 'green' area in between Kibes Lane North and South they could create more spaces. As far as i can tell it is only used for under-age smokers and drinkers, who loiter in an intimidating manner from 4.30 onwards after school. Maybe this would create more spaces and remove troublemakers from the streets!! Edited by - Rachael on 20 Jan 2004 12:45:02

Now that there are no wardens around, i just park on yellow lines anyway.

I'm not sure there are enough yellow lines to house all of Ware's workers and shoppers!!

I realise that this is rather radical........but perhaps some of the the people who drive from their houses a few hundred yards away, could walk into the town. Sorry.......I know it's a bit of a silly idea!!

I agree with you, but the company i work for employs 31 people of which 12 live in Ware and 19 live outside of Ware. Only two of those residing Ware drive, and this is only in the winter months, when walking to the outskirts of Ware is unsafe, especially for females on their own. Of the 19 that don't live in Ware 4 use Public Transport, 6 have Season Tickets and 3 Park on the Premises. I wouldn't want to walk into Ware from where I live, especially in the dark and the cold. Walking to the badly lit Car Park with loitering teenagers is bad enough.

Rachael,The green area you mention in the Kibes Lane Car Park happens to be a Quaker Cemetery. And it has to be kept as it is, some of us older Ware Folk can remember it with its Tombstones, and railings round. To keep it secure, ajw

so where will be the nearest place for me to park now if I'm using east street doctors surgery, bowling road clinc, or christchurch school on a rainy day?, presumably the 'free' car parks at tesco or peacocks! I suppose I'll have to walk from the Library, bit of a trek really when you just need 15mins of parking.

I didn't know it was a Quaker Cemetery, otherwise I wouldn't have suggested it! There aren't any memorial signs or anything for it. Bolly - You will still be able to park in the Short Stay Car Park in Kibes Lane (the larger of the two) - except on Market Day - but the maximum stay would be 4 hours

I think Bolly, you highlight the problem here when you think that walking from one end of town to the other is a "bit of a trek". If more people walked further the problem would certainly be reduced.

A bit of walking is good for you Bolly. The fresh air and exercise will do you good, and if its raining.........you could always use a brolly Bolly!!

Walking is not the issue here though is it?? It's the fact that they're changing something that works at the moment and what for? And be honest, if you can park near where you work then you will.

Walking from the library is a bit of a trek if your are heavily pregnant, and/or have wailing toddlers in tow on a rainy day I CAN ASSURE YOU, and how can I hold a brolly whilst pushing the baby in its trolley?, but obviously I misread, as short stay will still be available. Hoorah for us fairweather walkers!!!!! Edited by - bolly on 23 Jan 2004 23:02:30
