Thurgood of WARE
Are there any local historians who remember the "People's Motor Services" which was started by W L Thurgood of Ware on 11th June 1928?
We've had a request for information via the site. Can anyone help?

Having seen your message I have just telephoned my aged Brother-In-Law (He will love that if he see's this) whom certainly remembers a local coach company called Thurgoods. However, he will be seeing and speaking to an even older Ware person on Sunday down the rub-a-dub whom will no doubt be able to assist.

There is a refernce to this in the book "Ware's Past In Pictures" (page 46).which says:-
Ware's first bus service was run by the People's Motor Services, begun by Mr W.L.Thurgood in 1927,continued by Harvey & Burrows and later compuslorily purchased by the London Passenger Transport Board. The Company's heqdquarters was behind the "Town Hall" - Not the Building in the High Street, but the other one in Rankin Sqauare. When the Bus Garage moved to Hertford in 1934, the site became a factory. Mr Thurgood went on to found Jersey Airways and a coach-building factory and to manufacture plastic panels of "Wareite".
The Book is well worth the 14.95 it costs.
