Driving/walking in Ware

I would like to open a discussion forum about the standard of driving in and around Ware, the increasing amount of traffic in the town, state of the roads, crossings in the High Street etc., etc.I have some thoughts and observations about the subject that I would like to share with fellow onliners. If anyone from other parts of the country, who undoubtedly read this site, would like to get involved I would like to hear their views too. There are enough problems related to this subject, so it would be nice to let off some steam and, hopefully, see some changes. It would be great to have some different perspectives from drivers, non-drivers, delivery people, shopkeepers, residents and cyclists.

From a drivers perspective, I see the problem as no worse than anywhere else in the county. Sure, the high street is often choc-a-blok with cars parked at obsure angles and in inconvient places (I've done it myself), but that could be down to lack of parking or cost of parking, topics that I have seen being debated on here before and often read in the local press. The condiditon of the roads that I drive on around Ware are fairly good, and think myself lucky that we are not blessed with the roadworks that Hertford has to put up with on a regular basis!

I've just read your reply SD, and it's good to hear from a driver. I feel that there as many problems faced by car and lorry drivers alike.I feel every sympathy for lawabiding and considerate drivers who are affected by the increasing congestion and lack of 'nouse' by other road users.

I cannot understand why there are these expensive rebuildings of junctions when roads such as Fanshawe Crescent are left to disintegrate as they have never been properly built or resurfaced. As a council tax payer this makes me mad as this is a busy part of the town and is in dire need of maintenance and why are some roads deemed more important than others?

Manners would be nice from MOST drivers. I've decided to start a little tally in my head each time I pop through the short cut through Bengeo towards the Hertford north station, to prevent me getting so rattled by all the rude discourteous drivers! I pulled in at several differant points along that part for eight cars, only two waved thanks. The rest drove past either glaring at me or just ignoring me. I'll just wait there for you all, all day shall I? Try it yourself, you will be surprised at the encouraging results.

I live in Crib Street and the cars use this road as a race track. At the moment we have no parking wardens so the road is also used as a free car park by all day parkers.

Gosh, bad manners are awful enough but having to put up with everyone speeding up there aswell is just horrid. Why not join us all for the April drinky poos tomorrow at the Old Bulls Head, say 7.30pm? Come and find me and we can have a glass of wine and a grumble.

I think if all drivers were a little bit more courteous to all pedestrians this would make it much nicer. Also if pedestrians used the pedestrian crossings rather than dodging the traffic, this would help to stop irate drivers!!!?

"Also if pedestrians used the pedestrian crossings rather than dodging the traffic, this would help to stop irate drivers!!!?" Whilst driving down New Road yesterday, there were some kids hanging around the new traffic lights that have just been installed. They were pressing the button when they saw a car then once it had changed to red, they would walk extremely slow across the crossing pretending they either had a bad leg or would walk with a cocky swagger, thus MAKING the drivers irate even when they were abiding by the law. I couldn't believe the cheek of them, how pathetic. I know there isn't much for kids to do in the town, but good grief - get a life!!
