TEENAGE WORKING HOURS?
Can anyone tell me how old a child has to be before they can have a saturday job? I know a 13 year old who wants to earn some extra pocket money,is there anything other than paper rounds that they are allowed to do?

Hi Amber,
I did a search on google about this and found some links for you.

From the above link:
Legal Age for Employment
The legal age for a young person to start paid work is currently 14 years old. However, some areas of the UK allow the minimum age to be 13 years old to cover certain types of work such as delivering newspapers or working in shops, salons, offices or cafes.
You should contact your local government to find out if you are liable to employ 13 year olds for your particular type of work.
This information is from the hertsdirect webpage:
You need to have a work permit. Application form WP1/2000 can be obtained from your employer, school or local Area Education Centre. Your employer is responsible for keeping the law.
You can start working at 13. However, between 13 to 14 you can only be employed in specified categories. Some examples include:
Newspaper deliveries
Shop work
In a caf or restaurant.
For a full list of permitted work see the leaflet which is issued with your work permit application form

See the link above for all the information including how many hours of work are permitted.
