Gangs
Once again my quiet road has become the route home for a gang of teens who think intimidation is the only way. Their idea of fun is to frighten an old lady by knocking on her door and then then giving her loads of verbal abuse ( from a distance as they are not that brave ) - she is old and maybe not the full ticket but who deserves this? What angers me most is this is not a harmless game of knock down ginger , they frighten and intimidate. The gang is growing in size and as they walk up the road all the hoods go up so they cannot be seen. They are not stupid as they have lockouts at each end of the road. Do these people not have grandparents - how would they like it??? So after seeing our new PCOS in the Mercury I phoned the Police and await a call tomorrow. What else can I do?? I have thought of taking there pictures to scare them...

Inevitably the police will be unable to act until this is deemed serious enough to ask a magistrate to issue ASBOs.
Does this kind of intimidation happen often?
However, taking photos (from the safety of your own home) may do the trick.
Craig, what would your thoughts be on putting them on Wareonline? It's probably a no-go, but just thought I would check.
That way, maybe identities could be put to these photos and parents and headteachers informed?

Last night, on Trinity road, about 9:30pm there were a load of them, running up and down the middle of the road, shouting and fighting. I went outside at one point when I thought they were kicking at cars and asked what they thought they were up to..."just play fighting..." one of them said, so the missus and I told them to leave off th cars and we both stood they until they wandered off out of sight, probably to go onto some other road and start it all off again.
I find that speaking to them, warning them and generally being visible is enough to calm them down...but I do feel for older people who they aim to intimidate

Hi Louise, I am involved with the Market Town Healthcheck for Ware and come online on a regular basis. I work out of East Herts Council and am sorry to hear your concerns.
You may want to contact Julie Lawrence at the council she is the ASBO Co-ordinator, she will be able to offer advice and send out diaries if you want to record what is happening. Contact details
[email protected] or Tel.01279 655261 ext.1423.
Hope this is of some help.

I remember watching a news item about gangs who were terrorising their neighbourhood, one of the neighbours tactics was similar to SDArcy's.
All the neighbours would come out of their houses and stand at the end of their drives/gates. They wouldn't say anything, they would just stand their and try to intimidate the gangs and this seemed to have worked.
I do think though, that this just pushes the gangs on to another place and doesn't actually deal with the issue, but if no other help is available.....
