Christmas lights damaged

I was sad to see that the Christmas lights over Martins in the town had come down and been smashed, seen on Sunday morning. I'm not sure if it was wind damage or down to a hooligan element. I think unfortunately it may be the latter. Would CCTV cameras in the town stop this kind of thing and the general damage thats done by a drunken few and make the town that bit safer. Have the council, police or even the traders investigated this route of security?

CCTV what an excellent idear. but the Council cant afford them nor the traders, And the Police well they are not intrested. How oftern do you see Police Patroling our Town. I dont know what we pay Council Tax for so that they can ride around in cars. ajw

I see there was a temporary CCTV camera near the Amwell end level crossing. I am not sure what it is monitoring - maybe the crossing to stop the hooligans damaging the barriers or the night club further down. When I came around midnight the other week there were several vans of Police keeping an eye on the youngsters around that area so they do sho up sometimes. The lights outside Martins were down on Saturday morning.
