No more 'fast trains' to London from Dec 05

Commuters into London from Ware may wish to check out the News section on the One Website under the heading 'Your views wanted on West Anglia timetable!'. It is proposed that there will be no more 'fast' trains from Hertford to London. The 0712 from Ware will become the 0711 and will not arrive into Liv St until 0757, with additional stops at Cheshunt, Waltham Cross, Enfield Lock, Brimsdown, Ponders End and Hackney Downs. The 0742 becomes the 0741 with the same stops and arriving at 0827. The 1724 back to Hertford will leave at 1716 but still arrive at 1759 again with a lot more stops. The 1637 will leave at 1646 and there will no longer be the option to catch up the service at Broxbourne by taking a Cambridge train. There will not be a Hertford to Stratford service but a Broxbourne to Stratford service is planned. There is no mention of any extra carriages on these services

They must be having a laugh - what's today's date?....

Though I've not heard officially, I would believe it. They do not want people using the line which is why 'rush-hour' service was abolished years ago, we have the c**ppy '315' white trains off peak and the weekend trains stop everywhere to Liv. st. and of course we pay high fares for this 'service'. They would love to close our branch line so they can run more trains to Cambridge/blasted Stansted airport. Also - when was the last time they actually promoted our line??????? I am just glad I stopped commuting last year and have a new job locally where I can cycle to work along the Lea. LOL K.P.B.

I really hope this is some kind of bad joke. However my instincts tell me otherwise. As it stands the 0742 doesn't get in much before 0827 at the moment so who knows what time it will really arrive under this new timetable. I wonder how much they'll put the prices down to compensate us for this deterioration of the "service"? I am starting to feel very angry about this as it's going to add another 20+ minutes to my daily commute. Any comments should be sent to [email protected] I'm off to compose an email now.

I've just replied. Thankfully I work locally and don't rely on this service, but have certainly appreciated it on the occaisions when I've been into London. And there's no doubt that it's well used as the trains are often full on leaving Ware. One small bright side, though, is that all the Hertford East trains are proposed to run through Tottenham Hale rather than grotty old Seven Sisters. Doesn't that speed up the line a little?

I couldn`t beleive it when i first read this thread..i really DID think it was an April fools joke. Sadly not; they really ARE planning to abolish the fast rush hour sevice and stop at 6 extra stations. The 07.12 will get to Tottenham hale at 07.44 and the 7.42 will be there at 08.14...about 10 mins. later than now. We are getting done up like a kipper,to give a better service to the Stanstead/Cambridge line(and all the new `Prescott`homes soon to be built) I`ve just replied to the so-called `consultation`and urge all others to do so URGENTLY,as there`s only 3 weeks left to do so. Even if you don`t commute into London,i urge everyone to voice their complaint,as it will have an effect on house prices...the fast rush hour trains are a good selling point.

So, now we get a restricted service AND we get poor quality trains! And I thought ONE were supposed to be improving our service???

If there are plamns are for six extra stops on route where the hell will all the people fit? I'd better go on a diet then..

Does anybody else find that the trains are way too busy at the moment? If they are extending the number of stops on the service, then surely new trains with more seats and more carriages would be beneficial? I doubt we'll get that though - we'll be stuck with the grey "shacks" that we have at the moment!!! lol

I also notice a couple of other things ! During the Rush Hour trains will now take 13 minutes between Ware and Broxbourne. Its currently 10 minutes, and indeed during the day in the new time table its 10 minutes - so I can confidently predict that the train will sit for 3 minutes at the signals before joining the main line after Rye House ! Also, and on a more positive note - the off peak service has been speeded up a litlle, and at least should not now be ALL stations from Liverpool Street as it currently is !!

Does this mean house prices might become affordable to locals who are non-commuters?

It may do Bolly, but it may also mean that a lot of young people who have struggled to try and buy somewhere in Ware and taken on big mortgages, are pushed into a negative-equity situation which could bring a lot of financial hardship. As ever there are always two sides to these issues.

Done my bit and wrote telling them how hacked off I am about what they are proposing to do. If this happens, then I shall be moving.

I'll probably be slated by all the commuters out there who use the line every day, but i have to admit that on the few occasions I have to go to London on Business, I normally drive to Broxbourne and get one of the fast (less crowded) trains from there.

Whereaami - Yes, that is all well and good on the odd occasion but if everyone did it from Hertford/Ware/St Margarets/Rye House I doubt you would be able to get on the platform let alone a train. I know that when the 7:42 and the 8:12 from Ware arrives at Broxbourne (already crammed full) there are shed loads of people waiting to get on and most of those have to stand! Count yourself one of the lucky ones.

Just a reminder that the deadline for comments on the new proposed timetable is 24 April. If you haven't emailed 'one' yet to tell them how crazy their proposals are, please do so - the more people that make their views known, the better chance we have of making them think again. http://www.onerailway.com/latestinformation/news/newsdisplay.asp?id=702

If you read the mercury this week, It tells us that "One" have been "bombarded" with complaints about this... which is good! lol

Reply ID 9217

18/04/2005 by cfjwallis

I read that too. I think it said there had been 120 complaints? 120 is not a huge number when compared with the number of people who use the 'one' "service" each day - its about 1-2 carriages worth of people. I just wanted to remind anyone who has not yet made their views known to 'one' to do so before it's too late!

They are allready increasing the fares by reducing the discount on annual renewals. I think it was 7%.It`s now 3% and seems to be reducing 1% every month. I never thought i would say it, but BRING BACK WAGN !!

Both 'one' and WAGN are National Express. As are c2c, Silverlink, Midland Mainline, Wessex Trains and the Gatwick Express!

Thanks for highlighting this one. I have just worked out my return journey from Liverpool Street and as I can't make the proposed earlier train I have to catch a later one. I will get home 37 mins later than I do now. Then it's dinner, washing up and time for bed. Voiced my concerns. Thanks ONE.

Only the standard one below: Thank you for comments and for taking the time to respond to our consultation on the proposals for changes to the West Anglia timetable in December 2005. All the feedback received will be reviewed and assessed as part of the continuing planning process for the December 2005 timetable and your contribution is extremely helpful. It is our intention to publish the final draft timetables on the 'one' railway website in the summer. 'one' railway

Given the normal lethargy in responding, I'd say that 120 responses is really quite high, especially if these are just regarding the Hertford East fast trains. Remember, this is only 3 trains each way per day serving 4 stations on a branch line.

How many people per coach on the fast Hertford East services? Let's say 80 (I think this is on the low side as there are around 60-70 seats per coach). 7:12 is 4 coaches => 4 x 80 = 320 7:42 is 8 coaches => 8 x 80 = 640 8:12 is 8 coaches => 8 x 80 = 640 Total = 1,600. 120 / 1,600 = 7.5% - not that high!

Hi, anyone got the link to where this proposal is detailed on the One website? The number of complaints is low because no one knows about this! One should at least send out a letter? Makes me sick. Can't the local rag take this up?

The link was included in one of my earlier posts. The place you need to visit is: http://www.onerailway.com/latestinformation/news/newsdisplay.asp?id=702 You'll have to hurry - comments have to be received by the 24th (Sunday).

Hi all, Don't know if anyone saw but One issued a statement which was published in this week's Mercury. Seems that they have listened to the feedback! It's not too clear but it seems that during the peaks the exisiting Liverpool St services will be 6 minutes longer and 1 carriage shorter...BUT there will be 2 extra services per hour (I think) going to Stratford via Tottenham Hale. A sigh of relief from me as I'm moving to Ware in 2 weeks.

Looking on the One website,it looks to me as though there will indeed be 4 trains an hour in the peak times,2 to Liverpool St.and 2 to Stratford, all via Tottenham Hale....BUT they are not FAST trains; You have to change at Broxbourne to connect with the fast trains to Liverpool St. You won`t get a seat if the train has come from Cambridge or Stanstead. So...sit on a slow train or change and stand on a fast......

Cheeky, i'm not sure where you get the "1 carriage shorter" from, as the trains on the West Anglia route are made of 4 unit sets and are therefore always 4 or 8 coaches long. I just hope that the additional Stratford services use extra units and that they do not make all the services (Liverpool Street and Stratford) 4 coaches each - could you imagine what the overcrowding would be like?! Good to see that 'one' seem to have listed to the feedback, though.

Hmm maybe that is one unit shorter then! Would explain where they magiced up the extra two services from.

New timetable is now available! http://www.onerailway.com/contents/download/SX%20All%20Day%20Public%20FINAL050905.pdf Ware 0711 Liv St 0758 >>47 mins, Calls at 5 extra stops. Ware 0721 Waits at Broxbourne for 9 mins Stratford 0808 (47 mins to Statford, stops at Cheshunt, Walth X, Enfield, Angel Rd, Nrt Pk and Tott Hale). Same situation at 0741 (Liverpool St) and 0749 (Stratford).

even though they are doubling the number of stops on the "peak" services (and adding another 10-15mins to the journey), at least it looks like the "off peak" trains are no longer going to go via Seven Sisters which must be an improvement I suppose.

And at last they seem to have added a later train back from Hertford at 23.44 - allowing an extra hlaf hour of drinking !
