Genealogy - 1901 British Census
THE UK's census returns are an invaluable source for family historians. They reveal information from a generation before grandparents' memories, providing details of whole families which cannot be gleaned elsewhere.
Carried out every 10 years, they are released to public view after 100 years. The next eagerly-awaited census becomes available on Wednesday 2nd January 2002 and is the one taken in March 1901.
The index will be free and you have found the individual you have two options:
You can view a digital image of the census return. The image will be the whole page from the enumerator's book in which the individual's entry appears. This will cost 75p. Once you have bought the image you can save it to your own system and/or print out a copy. If you do not have printing facilities at home you will be able to place an order online and an A3 sized copy will be posted to you.
or
You can view the details for an individual transcribed from the census returns. This will cost 50p. If you wish to view the details for all the others in the same household you can do this for an extra 50p.
Payment is by credit card or by a voucher system. Full details are available at the Public Records web site. http://www.pro.gov.uk/census/
