Bishop's Stortford based choir, Amici Cantate, is delighted to be returning to Leaside Church in Ware after being made to feel extremely welcome there last year. On Sunday 15th March, starting at 7.00pm, Amici will present a joyful spring concert, featuring music from Benjamin Britten and Charles Hubert Parry, through show music to gospel. The concert will be directed by John Tripp and accompanied by Charlie Penn (piano) and Graham Instrall (percussion).
Amici Cantate is a vibrant choir, well known for its eclectic repertoire spanning musical genres from early music, through classical choral works, to contemporary and African music. Originally formed to allow parents and friends to support Cantate Youth Choir by raising funds and joining together in concerts and performances, Amici is now a well known choir in its own right. Amici still has the objective of supporting Cantate, but has also widened its objectives to supporting other local charities and music-making opportunities in the local community.
As a registered charity Amici Cantate perform in order to raise funds not only for themselves, but also in partnership with other charities and organisations. In their last season (2013-2014) they raised funds on behalf of Grove Cottage, Hertsmind, Cantate Youth Choir and Toppesfield Community Pub Ltd. This season Amici is delighted to have been raising funds on behalf of St. Clare Hospice as well as Cantate Youth Choir and Grove Cottage.
Rehearsals are held regularly on Saturday mornings in Bishop's Stortford (with occasional weekday evenings). With 3 to 4 concerts a year and regular tours, (Venice, Lake Garda, St. Andrews, Santiago de Compostela, Bruges, Dinard and Dinan have been venues over recent years), the emphasis is on quality, fun and commitment.
Amici’s Music Director, John Tripp, is well known in Hertfordshire as a baritone soloist, chorister, pianist and performer and has directed/directs a number of groups including Imperial College Operatic Society, Imperial Opera, The Morgan Stanley Singers, Ware Operatic Society, and a thriving community choir in London Docklands, The Canary Wharf Choir.

Tuesday 17 March
Event:Ware Society of Cogers: Debating Society
Details:Are you interested in hearing the opinions of others and not afraid to voice your own?
We meet on the third Tuesday of every month
At 8pm in the Drill Hall, Amwell End
Hanbury Room
The Ware Society of Cogers is a debating society that maintains a tradition rooted in the coffee-houses of eighteenth century London. Unlike other debating societies, the Cogers (pronounced koh-jers, and not to be confused with codgers) do not divide into opposing sides or vote on formal motions. Instead, participants are invited to express their individual views on the events of the preceding month – international, national or local. They may take issue with preceding speakers or develop new arguments on issues of personal interest.
The wide-ranging nature of the debates means that they easily accommodate and interest speakers of differing backgrounds, ages and experience. They also offer an enjoyable opportunity to practise and improve skills in argument and public speaking.

Cogers may be opinionated, but they are not elitist. We welcome new members, and invite you to join us
