Arts & Crafts Market at Ware Arts Centre 3 Apr 2014
Artisans of Ware are holding their monthly arts and crafts market this Sunday (6 April), bringing the talented artisans from Ware and the surrounding area, together with customers who appreciate unique and hand-made wares not usually found in the shops.

The market is held in the historic Ware Arts Centre in Kibes Lane which offers free parking right outside the door. The market opens at 12 noon and runs through to 4.00pm.

Ware is prawn capital of UK 1 Apr 2014
A new survey has found that a freshwater prawn, fished from the Lea Navigation in Ware and cooked in the town, is the biggest and tastiest of its kind and Ware residents can't get enough of the tasty treat.

Figures released by American researchers investigating the invasive american signal crayfish, showed Ware consumes more prawn than any other UK town.

Waitrose and Van Hage to hold public exhibition 19 Mar 2014
Plans for a Waitrose supermarket at th Van Hage Garden Centre in Pepper Hill, Great Amwell have finally been revealed.

The partnership confirmed they were in discussion in February 2014 and have now arranged a public exhibition to showcase their plans for the Van Hage site.

Volunteers Wanted by 'Christmas Together' 10 Dec 2013
'Christmas Together' is a local group run by local volunteers that works to provide a Christmas Day meal and companionship  to local people who would otherwise be alone.

This year, they need more people to give up a few hours to bring some Christmas spirit into the lives of others in our community.

Now in its fifth year, Music & Motors, featuring live music and a small classic vehicle show, takes place in Tudor Square in the heart of Ware, this year on Saturday 17th August in the afternoon.

This relaxed community organised event combines a display of interesting cars, bikes and usually some VW Camper Vans with music provided by local performers and you too can be involved.

Volunteers wanted for River Lee clean-up 13 Jun 2013
The Lee & Stort Branch of The Inland Waterways Association, a national waterway charity, will be working in Ware on 22nd June to prepare the area around the River Lee ready for the Ware River Festival (5th-7th July).

All willing volunteers are invited to come and make a difference in their community by lending a hand between 10am and 4pm.

A six-year-old boy from Ware is taking part in a sponsored 10km walk to raise money for the child he sponsors in Senegal through the anti-poverty charity ActionAid.

Samuel Atkins is taking part in the 'Just Walk' event in the South Downs National Park on 11 May with his parents Sandrine and Neil Atkins.

Roebuck demolition and homes plan submitted 7 Apr 2013
A planning application has been submitted for 14 new homes on the site currently occupied by the Roebuck Hotel.

The One Property Group and Akkeron Hotel Group's proposal features 2no 3 bedroomed houses and 12no 4 bedroomed, 3 storey houses together with car parking and access.

Last chance to see the Great Bed In Ware 30 Mar 2013
The Great Bed of Ware is due to be returned to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London after being loaned to the Ware Museum in March last year.

The bed was last seen in the town over 150 years ago and will be missed by all who have seen the bed in the Ware Museum.

Ware Brass to embark on National Finals Challenge 20 Mar 2013
Ware Brass secured 3rd place at the London & Southern Counties Regional Championships last Sunday, 17 March, which took place at the Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre.

In a field of eighteen bands, the band was beaten by winners Hitchin, and Epsom & Ewell who claimed 2nd place.

Draft Decision for Biffa's Environmental Permit variation at Westmill Landfill, Ware 25 Feb 2013
In July 2012, Biffa Waste Management submitted an application to The Environment Agency to vary its environmental permit for its Westmill Landfill in Ware. Biffa want to construct and operate a Soil Repair Centre on the Landfill site. The soil recycling facility will convert contaminated soils into cleaner, reusable soils. Biffa will use these soils on site as restoration and daily waste cover material.

The consultation period has now begun.

The 2012 Ware Fireworks Display will take place on Saturday 10th November in its usual venue on the corner of High Oak Road and Kingsway. Whatever the weather, wet or dry, the fireworks will be launched!

The Rotary Clubs of Amwell, Ware and Hertford Shires, all of whom meet in Ware, are working together to put on the Ware Firework Display - an event which was started and run by Ware Round Table  many years ago.

Public Consultation:Biffa Westmill site - change of permit and planning permission 4 Oct 2012
Biffa Waste Services Ltd has submitted an application to the Environment Agency to vary their environmental permit and a separate application to Hertfordshire County Council for planning permission for the construction and operation of a Soil Repair Centre at their Westmill Landfill site in Ware.

This is a joint consultation announcement from Hertfordshire County Council and the Environment Agency.

Library footbridge closed for refurbishment 3 Aug 2012
The footbridge over the River Lea from the Ware Library car park will be closed for two weeks while it undergoes essential improvement work. The bridge will be completely removed during its refurbishment.

The work is due to start on Monday August 13 and finished on Friday August 24.

Musley Hill School: A new hope? 18 Jun 2012
Local residents packed a meeting at The Priory last week to hear Councillors John Wing and Malcolm Alexander discuss the future of the former Musley School building.

The objective was to form an official group, the Friends of Musley School, that would seek to create a sustainable future for the building at the heart of the community.

Ware prepares to become an independent state 1 Apr 2012
It will be announced today that, in light of Herts County Council appearing to take no notice of concerns about waste disposal in and around Ware, Ware Town Council (WTC) are to call for a Unilateral Declaration of Independence (UDI).

This will mean that Ware will be completely independent from the rest of the UK with its own constitution, police force and army and the right to regulate its borders.

The Great Bed of Ware returns home 27 Mar 2012
The Great Bed of Ware, on loan from the V&A, has made a welcome return to the town where it was made, over 150 years after it left the town.

Dating from around 1590, The Great Bed of Ware is thought to have been created as a tourist attraction for travellers on the pilgrim route from London to Walsingham, and those on their way from the capital to Cambridge University.

Olympic Torch times announced for Ware visit 19 Mar 2012
The route for the 2012 Olympic Torch has been announced, with Ware seeing the torch on Saturday 7th July, on it's way from Chelmsford to Cambridge.

The torch will be carried by 8000 torchbearers during it's 10 week relay, each carrying it for approximately a mile. Ware torchbearers’ route begins outside Hertford Regional College at just after 10.30am,

Ware Town Council under pressure from residents: County Council must be next! 15 Mar 2012
On the evening of 12 March 2012, over 200 concerned residents crammed into the Priory Hall (with more people sitting and standing in the lobby outside the hall unable to get in) for a special meeting on the Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) Waste Strategy and to demand action from the Ware Town Council.

Update: No extension to waste consultation deadline
HCC have advised that as this is a statutory 6 week consultation, they will NOT be able to receive responses after 5pm on Monday 19 March. They will accept an email response rather than the response form if this is easier.

This year, the Scouts are able to sell their own stamps and deliver Christmas cards (and only cards) in their delivery area.

On the day of the Royal wedding, the ringers of St Mary’s Church Ware will be marking a pair of weddings by attempting what is know as a full peal of Grandshire Triples.

At 2pm, some three hours after the beginning of the Royal Wedding a local couple will celebrate their marriage in Ware's traditional parish church.

An accident involving a car and a moped blocked Wadesmill Road in Ware today (Saturday January 9). At around 11.30am, a black Audi A3 and a silver moped were travelling along Wadesmill Road towards Ware when they were in collision.
